Foxsports.com Four-time NBA All-Star Jason Kidd appears headed from the Phoenix Suns to the New Jersey Nets in a trade for Stephon Marbury, the Arizona Republic reported on its Web site Thursday. Kidd, a first-team All-NBA selection in 2000-01, averaged 16.9 points, tying a career best, and 9.8 assists for the Suns. Marbury averaged 23.9 points, also a career best, for the Nets last season. There would likely have to be another player involved to make the trade work under the terms of the NBA’s collective bargaining agreement. Marbury reportedly has four years remaining on a contract that is scheduled to pay him $11.25 million next season. Kidd is scheduled to earn $8.44 million next season. ------------------ www.expage.com/saveourunis
Sorry that's not the scoop, but there is one around here somewhere I can't find it myself. ------------------ I am an invisible man. [This message has been edited by kbm (edited June 28, 2001).]
Here's the scoop, but cson yours is in the right forum! Good Job! http://bbs.clutchcity.net/ubb/Forum3/HTML/013544.html ------------------ I am an invisible man.
Watching Colangelo on ESPN now...guess he sees Marbury as an Iverson clone who will lead them to the promised land. IMHO move weakens the Suns. You don't give up a leader and the best point guard in bball who leaves it all on the court every nite. Good for Rox!!
Pheonix will not make the playoffs next year. Interesting trade, Marbury would be outstanding for the right team (a team with good D but bad O), and Phoenix, a team with no D but a lot of O, isn't it. Phoenix does get younger, I don't think it helps the Nets, but I'll have to think who they have as shooters. Kidd needs a team of shooters to be most effective. This is a great trade for both teams. New Jersey gets a pure passer for a team loaded with weapons, and the Suns get a dominate, Iverson-like guard who can take over. Remember, Marbury was a big reason for the Timberwolves finally getting to the playoffs, and with a talented, experienced team could be a great overall player. Definitely a plus for both teams. ------------------ "Win if you can, lose if you must but always cheat!" - Jesse Ventura
This is a bad trade for the Suns. Depending on your definition of talent, Marbury may be more talented than Kidd, but Kidd makes his teammates better, Marbury does not. Suns won't make the playoffs. ------------------ The Smurfs were Communists
Jason Kidd is about a thousand times better than Marbury. Jerry Coangelo is crazy. Upshot - great news for the Rockets. One less team to compete with for a playoff spot. ------------------ I'm so amazingly cool you could keep a side of meat in me for a month. I am so hip that I have difficulty seeing over my pelvis.
It's official. ------------------ The Smurfs were Communists [This message has been edited by tacoma park legend (edited June 28, 2001).]
Kidd had taken Phoenix as far as they could go. Now they get a guy who's like 23 and has way more potential than Kidd did. Good trade for Phoenix, IMO. Marbury and Marion isn't a bad 1-2 punch. Having Scott Skiles should also help Marbury's game a lot.
My jaw is on the floor... I was stunned by the Brand trade...but this one redefines the word... Gotta feel sorry for Kidd... ------------------
Look out for New Jersey, I expect them to be the Sacramento Kings of the Eastern Conference, but better. Byron Scott was a huge part of the Kings offense that made them a threat, and if these pieces come together the Nets could be VERY dangerous! ------------------ "Win if you can, lose if you must but always cheat!" - Jesse Ventura
Maybe they will keep Van Horn now, he could great in combination with Kidd Their Line-up could look like C- Collins, Eschmayer, McIlvaine PF- Martin, Williams, Feick, Scallabrini SF- Van Horn, Gill SG- Jefferson, Harris, Kittles?? PG- Kidd, Armstrong there's some good hustle factor on this team ------------------ "The things I enjoy most, I suck at: 1) Sex: everything's fine until she makes noises." - Achebe
Didn't do much for either team. Kidd is the better PG IMO. Martin is overrated, Van Horn is good but needs shots (no D), SF and C are big question marks. The Suns got a scoring PG who TO ratio is high. In order to be like the Sixers they'll need people that rebound and a defensive presence in the middle. Marion the SF was top rebounder and shot blocker last year not their PFs or Cs. IMO they will have a season similar to this past season. Nets will probably win more games next year since they had injury problems last year. ------------------
Jeez, it's not even time for FA signings and we've already got big players changing unis. Shareef, Brand, Bibby, Kidd, Marbury...could Payton be next. Francis would be a near lock for the all-star team if GP and Kidd are both sent East. ------------------ Who needs teachers? I can learn my own self.
I think that this greatly helps the Nets, and Van Horn stays cause it was either or for them. Now the Suns are just stupid to give up a passing point guard on a team of scorers. Their problem won't offense, it was defense!! So now they still don't have a defensive presense in the middle, and now they have a point guard that won't pass. They must hang with Portland and Spur management, because they are good for adding players that only push you back 2 steps. Big trade and I honestly think it helps (or at least doesn't hurt) both teams. The Nets had gone nowhee with Marbury, who is a very skilled PG. THe Suns were going nowhere in the West with their present lineup. Kidd is a great PG but a great passing PG, but in the West dominated by big men they are trying to be the Sixers of the West (penetratingm, shooting first guard).
