What does that mean anyway? I'm sure I hear it more than most of you and I am tired of always being urged to do it. Keep it real what? Real stupid? Real ghetto? I don't get it.
I've always thought "keeping it real" meant being forthcoming and honest with your words and actions -- as opposed to "fronting".
Similar to another poster, I only here it used when the person saying it is doing or saying something stupid, offensive, violent, pathetic, etc. and they try to justify it by saying "Just keepin it real."
Don't be fake, phony, or fraudulent reminds me of a chamillion and paul wall song "you fake, you phony, you falsifying"
