16-15, snapping Southlake Carroll's 31-game winning streak!!! Third state title since 1997. I'd like to believe that my class started it all in 1990 junior high football since we were the first to go to state, but that wouldn't be giving credit where it's due-the coaches (and of course, I stupidly gave up football for basketball). Great game that included one of the best interceptions I've seen on any level. Go Tigers!!
ima, they take three teams from each district to the playoffs. The school with the highest attendance is placed in the Division I bracket and the other two are placed in the Division II bracket.
I'm glad Katy won. The only beef I have with them is when I went to see Madison vs Katy in the Dome in 2001, and Vincent Young was hurt on one play. The Katy fans proceeded to cheer when it was announced that Young was hurt on the play.
HAHAHAHA!! Did you know that the Cardinals actually made the football playoffs this year for the first time in god knows how many years? Of course they lost in the first round, but it was still a huge accomplishment. Everyone knows that in High School, baseball is a much more manly sport than football anyway!
Hahaha. BHS representing! I went to like every football game when I went to Bellaire, and the best we ever finished was like 4-5-1. At least the cheerleaders were cute.
On another HS football note, the Shiner team (1A) lost the state championship on a missed extra point. The team drove I guess around 60 yards, scored and the poor kid missed the extra point. I feel for him.
When I was a little kid growing up in Bellaire, I went to a BHS football game and witnessed the funniest sports play I've ever seen. The Bellaire punter actually punted the ball over his own head. It landed about 20 yards BEHIND him.
HA! When I was a senior, a friend of mine was the starting point guard for Bellaire's basketball team. I watched Rob Williams (later of UH and the Denver Nuggets) drop 50 points on him...in the first half!!.
The even odder part of that is the coach who took them there this year and I went to high school at the same time.
So, I take it Coach Hudek isn't there anymore? I used to love that guy. He was a coach at Katy Jr. High until our eighth grade year when he left for that job. We were all pretty bummed since our high school coach was an idiot and we thought he'd be in line there. Well, I forgot all about that in 1996 after Katy (a year after I left) lost a very close game to Bellaire in the first round of the playoffs. After the game, after our kids were coming out upset and crying from the locker room, the Bellaire players were standing there taunting them...with Coach Hudek looking on with a smile. At that point, it was the pissed I had ever been. I couldn't believe a high school coach would codone and encourage that kind of behavior, especially one I thought was above all that.
