After reading the MO T thread it got me to thinking about Kenny Thomas . . . What is his potential? His value to the team? What about his role?

Kenny is an interesting player -- he has talent that just awesome. His footwork is incredible, he's a good rebounder and a solid outside shooter with a post game.

His no. 1 problem is just that he's so inconsistent. Is that because he doesn't work hard, or is it because he's young and still learning? Sometimes, when you see him on the court, it reminds you of Othella with all his hustle and going after offensive rebounds. But then he has games where he doesn't do anything.

He has the potential to be a solid starter in this league, but will he become that? And will it be with Houston? His role here is to be a backup PF. But he's got the skills to do better than that -- he could be a starter. Does Rudy overuse him or underuse him? Sometimes KT gets lots of minutes, and other times he's hardly used.

And is MO T that much better than KT? Or is it just that MO T is more consistent? Will KT become more consistent?

KT seems to have been lost in the shuffle lately, what with the Dream fiasco and the acquisition of EG... But he should not be forgotten. If he doesn't end up becoming trade fodder, that is (a huge mistake were it to happen, IMO).

He is too small to play the likes of Shaq or Duncan evenly, but against anyone who is not 80lbs heavier he is too quick to keep up with. I can't remember how many times last season I saw a tangle of bodies under the basket, possessions going back and forth in the blink of an eye, only to see him spin out of the mass with the ball and make a shot. His hands and feet are quicker than the vast majority of PFs & Cs out there, and there are times when putting him in AT EITHER SPOT can be advantageous.

He and Mo have different styles. Mo is a SF in a PF's body. KT is a PF/C in a SF's body. If only we could trade their styles to each others' bodies... But the point is that they can each complement each other in different situations.

If CD can get us a quality big man at C (hopefully Hakeem) spot, then the Mo/KT rotation could be used to confuse the hell out of our opponents. So yes, he still is very valuable. And he's still under contract...

I like KT alot. It looks like he will be the PF backup. I still see him getting 20 min a game. This could be his breakout year.

Then we will have to sign him to a big contract. [IMG]

I have also noticed the complete lack of attention to Kenny Thomas. There were many games where he was better than Mo. I think that Kenny is very consistent with his effort. He always tries hard especially at rebounding and at position defense. I still think that he has the chance to be much better on offense. His outside shot can get better and he seemed to be practicing it during last offseason. As many have commented he probably misses two layups a game. If he made these his scoring would be much more impressive. Hard to say if he can. When you rush shots quickly because you're trying to get it up before a taller player blocks it you have a tendency to miss.

See, I feel a little torn about KT, because I'd like to see him log about 25 mins per game, but I'd also love to see MO T log about 35 per. Hard to do . . .

KT is like a shorter, better scoring, worse defending Othella Harrington

KT (aka K9, Kenny etc.) is a relentless rebounder and has really improved defensively. He is not really a good spot up shooter, but his interior footwork and quickness is fabulous for a big man. Also, last year he started driving, taking most opponents off the dribble and doing it very well. He needs to learn to put the ball up softly, that's why he misses so many inside shots...and this is something he can definitely improve. At least he can get to the hole on most defenders. I'm glad he has limited his 3 point attempts; even though he makes them occasionally, we have other players who are much better at the 3. And it leaves him in terrible rebounding position.

All that being said, I'm a real fan of his. And, one more thing....he's probably the best passing big man on the team. 'Nuff said.
