Right, they were only the team that, IIRC, managed to have a better record without him than with him....hmmmm

    Yao under JVG: 24.3 PER

    Yao under Adelman: 22.6 PER

Yep, he was being held back....from becoming a less productive player.

The funny thing is that YOFs always prefer JVG and Rafer. The results show that Yao achieved more when he was teamed up with Adelman and Brooks. YOFs are a special bunch of ****. Never respect them.

Yao with JVG = Okur occurred.
Yao with Adelman = 2nd round.

TMAC with JVG = 1st round exit.
TMAC with Adelman = total exit.

You can tell somebody wasn't a rockets fan in the 90's when they celebrate getting to the 2nd round (while a welcome achievement at the time, no doubt, thank you Ron) as a crowning glorious achievement. Like the way they celebrate a 42-40 lotto season as a mark of brilliance.

So JVG was the one who caused the Rockets to be matched up with Utah rather than Portland?

Yup, a less productive individual player for the good of the team. That was what good coaches do.

JVG held Yao from being a playoff winner to be Okur's b****.

What good of the team? The teams had the same level of offensive efficiency under both coaches. The reduction of Yao's touches didn't really result in any discernable good (or "bad") of the team.

And Adelman has beaten Okur's Jazz in the playoffs how many times?

The 09 team simply had a more favorable matchup in Portland.

That was a hell of achievement to Yao or he will be as virgin as TMAC.
Also, it was a hell of achievement to a team that had 14 year's bad luck in playoffs.

And happened to directly coincide with the introduction into the lineup of the first two PF's capable of a modicum of interior scoring since....Barkley?

Yao had his best years under JVG. He posted a 25+ PER in his last 2 years under JVG. Then it dropped to under 23 PER for his 2 years with Adelman.

But it's not that simple. Additional injuries may have simply slowed Yao down. He also played 4 more minutes his first year under Adelman, which can reduce efficiency. But I think it was mainly Adelman's offense not putting Yao deep in the post (sometimes using him in the high post) quite as often as JVG.

And also there were personnel changes that could have affected Yao's usage.

Discernible good: Passing the first round.

It must be Adelman's fault that he did not ask league to switch his playoff opponent to Utah.

    Why whine

If the Rockets win a championship with Adelman as coach he will be our hero.
If they don't he will slot himself along side JVG (I don't believe it will happen with Adelman)

Having a bad day, Sam? If you seriously believe guiding the Rockets last season to a 42-40 record wasn't a hell of an achievement, I have to wonder who's using your keyboard.

What an intriguing mind of a JVG nut-hugger!

Relative to the available players? Sure, they mildly overachieved their W-L predictor (35 or thereabouts, IIRC).

relative to the rest of the NBA, the division, the conference, or Rockets History?

    Very obviously not.

Is it something you and I will remember or care about a few years ago?

Nope, not even remotely. Unless you were giddy with anticipation on lotto-drawing night?

I understand you people blaming GM, star players, role players, 12th bench warmer, injuries, referees, fans, city, weather, but blaming opposing team or one of their specific player? That was on a whole other level.

With this concept, in the end, you can always blame God, who was the one created everything and caused the Rockets to be matched up with Utah rather than Portland.

Would make logical response if it was useful. Judging by earlier attemps to use logic with you people by others, no need to waste.
