The New York 'tabs' seem to be talking about Larry Brown being bought out and therefore the Knicks getting a new coach. Herb Williams is mentioned (if so, good-bye PEw) as are JVG and SVG. I have no way of knowing if this specious or substantive speculation on those scribes' part. Just for the sake of discussion if this is true and Isaih came 'after' Jeff Van Gundy, then would you: a) say, fine. Go. b) say, no way. He's ours. c) say, sure. But give us compensation. (One of the two 1st picks? One of the two 1st picks + Q for Howard???)
Just playing along with the scenario, but ... You would always ask for compensation, if that were the case. We had to compensate the Knicks to hire JVG, and he wasn't even with them anymore (just technically still under contract). I don't know if JVG wants to risk his rep in NYC with that team ... but not sure how it can get much worse.
All you people wanting to get rid of JVG, who will we replace with him so that we'll be better? Last time I checked a coach of better caliber, like PJ, is not on the market.
No way JVG would take that NY job. That team is a nightmare, and he's already gotten burned out on the Knicks once. What makes you think he wants any part of Marbury and his merry band of mismatched underacheivers.
If they are waffling on him as a coach, then not being obligated to pay the remainder of his contract may be compensation enough. Wouldn't mind trying somebody new. JVG certainly isn't anything special. I have a feeling higher profile coaches will be more readily available after next year though.
It would be fun watching the NY players that IT assembled chew up and spit out yet another coach. JVG would have 3 hour press conferences ripping on all his players.
Last time I checked, Rudy Tomjanovich was available. Is Elie in direct line for the Golden State job? If not, he should jump in line here. Gundy's got to go. I don't want him being the face of the Houston Rockets. I don't want to give the media and NBA fans everywhere any more reasons to dislike us when we're dominating them.
Nobody misses THAT much misery. Seriously, he was lucky enough to get rid of Steve Francis once. Twice would require a deal with the devil. At this point it seems more likely than Brown being bought out is that he "retires" anyway. If the Knicks quit on Larry Brown, I'm pretty sure JVG wouldn't be able to do jack with that squad of losers, either.
Rudy T is retired. He won't coach anymore. You have to ask for compensation. We had to pay them for a coach who was longer their coach. That wasn't cool. If they want him back, I'd insist on a draft pick, even if we didn't want him.
In all reality though I know for a fact if Larry Brown was our coach this year instead of JVG...with all the injuries in consideration...we would be in the playoffs.
I like JVG, but somehow I don't the team is going in the right direction. Remember when Don Chaney won NBA Coach of year and then the Rockets got rid of him the next year? You'd think that was a bad idea, but we got Rudy T to emerge as the coach of the championships.
So was Phil Jackson. So was Larry Brown. And Pat Riley. And Lenny Wilkens. Assuming his health levels out, I don't think he got to leave on his terms. The guy was practically forced out here which is the only reason I can think of why he wouldn't come back. PJ and Riley both returned to coach the same team. The precident is there. Certainly he'd want to coach Yao again, not to mention T-Mac! And anyway, he'd only be there long enough to get Elie acclimated. He can't be satisfied scouting for the freaking Lakers.
It is laughable that you think Larry Brown is a better coach then JVG. Larry Brown had an amazing team in the Pistons to win that championship, What has he done with New York? The team does have talent, it should be just missing the playoffs, not a front runner in the lottery. Brown is over-rated. Arent the same Pistons better this year, under a new coach? If you guys are miserable with JVG, I dont know whats going to happen to you if Brown comes over here.
It wasn't Browns fault that organization is a mess from the top down. Basically we know from this season that he's not a miracle worker. Red Auerbach couldn't take that team to the playoffs unless he was secretly feeding his players mind altering substances.
