If it is of "small consequence" why do you and others rag on and on about it? Man just enjoy the season, because in my opinion the best is yet to come. Forget all the whining.
Man, people always b****. They're probably b****ing in Dallas too...like, how they might not have even lost 9 games if Boki was on their team or some stupid sh_t like that.
I am enjoying the season. We have everybody back and healthy. Yao is playing now like he never left-hot like a house on fire- against Dwight Howard no less-the toughest competition. We do not have any crises right now. Everything is running smooth. I am proud of the Rockets. I do not want anything to upset the balance of this team. We should get better and better throughout March and have a "head of steam" running into the playoffs. Go Rockets!!!!
There was nothing "good" about that post - it was idiotic. To attempt a comparison between Wells' situation and Yao's is insane. Bonzi being out of shape to start the training camp was a self imposed condition. TMac and Battier managed to show up at camp in shape so why couldn't Bonzi? Because he didn't want to. He was still sulking from losing millions because of his overinflated value of himself. And then when he got to camp what did he do? He found every excuse to avoid practicing - "my teeth hurt, I have personal business to attend to, and I'm not here to run a marathon BS." He did NOTHING to show that he wanted to be a part of the team and to contribute to the TEAM - it was all about Bonzi. Contrast that to Yao. He was INJURED on the court, and it wasn't anything he could avoid or control. It was the last thing he wanted because at the time he was playing the best ball in the league. So when he got injured did he sulk? No he worked his butt off. The day he got out of the hospital he was shooting from a wheelchair. (The day Bonzi got out of the dentist he was offering excuses about why a dentist visit was going to keep him out of camp for a week.) And Yao didn't stop there. His personal trainer and the Rockets drew up a rigid rehab program that called for Yao to be in the gym everyday. Yao would show up for rehab 2 HOURS EARLY everyday. Bonzi wouldn't show up at all because he had "personal problems" to deal with. With Yao its all about the team - with Bonzi its all about Bonzi. Man, anybody who thinks JVG didn't handle the Bonzi situation right, doesn't know anything about Bonzi's history or the need for the coach to control the team. And anybody who is crazy enough to think the Bonzi return to playing and the Yao return to playing are the same, is in need of a brain transplant.
At no point in my post did I say the return of Bonzi and the return of Yao were the same. All I commented on was JVG's different approach to different players.
No that's not all you said. Your words, not mine: "The only problem I have with him and his leadership is that he has different rules for different players." When you said you have a "problem" you are, of course, saying that you disagree with the way JVG handled Bonzi. And when you specifically compare the situation of Yao with that of Bonzi, you are, of course, arguing that the rules that apply to Yao should apply to Bonzi. As I said before, your suggestions are ludicrous. Bonzi is capable of being a valuable on the court contributor, but he is now, and has always been a headcase. Give him an inch and he can take the whole team. Yao is a valuable contributor of the team and has never been anything but a super dedicated, hard working, professional team player. Give him an inch or two football fields and he will make your proud. To even suggest that they should be treated/handled the same is ridiculous and you know it.
Then in another thread somebody else complained about JVG being too rigid and inflexible with problem players that need to be treated differently. JVG just can't win. Whatever he does is wrong. Both sides of an issue will find fault with him. Most of the criticism of JVG's style is just so silly. Dr of Dunk answered you very well. If at some point in the future you are in a management position and have people work for you, it will become clear. You absolutely cannot treat everyone 100% the same. Life doesn't work that way and never will.
Anytime I come into work in a pissed off mood because of NYC traffic, I can always come to these types of threads for a good giggle. Thanks DD and the crew!
One other way to look at it. If you look at objective indiactors (Roland ratings), both Snyder and Wells are ahead of Head and Hayes this year. Last year Swifts were better than Howard, Deke, Bogans and Bowen. So sure Swift, Bonzi and Snyder have issues of one sort (not so smart, boneheads, whatever), but the bottom line is their on court performance warrents more minutes than they have gotten relative to other role players who maybe have a better ethic but don't produce as much or at most equivalent? This suggests JVG puts his grudges, comfort zone, ideals of what these players should be, or whatever, above the reality of what they are doing on the floor. Deal with reality--what the players do positively and negatively for you on the court, not what you want reality to be (even if those 3 players for intance don't fully utlize their god given talent from JVG's perspective). Anyone can coach the Battiers of the world, how you can coach a Swift or Snyder is a much greater indicator of a special coach.
Thanks everybody - working the weekend and this morning's schedule have been brutal. The lst meeting I wanted to strangle a manager. This is therapy- fun-loving banter and arguments about games! Games! Go Rockets and go Cluthcfans.net!!!!!!
***************************88 This is it exactly- it is much more difficult to get something out of Bonzi and Snyder than Battier. True coaching savvy is psychology. Getting the most out of your players takes special talent and diplomacy. Fully utillizing the talent available. This will be our Rockets mantra! Excellent post. Thank You!
That's an interesting bit to note. Do you have links on these stats? Are Roland ratings on ESPN and what do they tabulate?
LOL. I was thinking the same thing. Does every team have fans that nitpick like this? I mean first V-Span over and over again...now its Boki. Do Dallas fans b**** that Avery Johnson is ruining DJ Mbenga? Would they argue that it is worth it to lose a few games here and there to develop Maurice Ager and Jose Juan Barea for the future? Do Phoenix fans b**** that Mike D'Antoni is ruining Marcus Banks? Would they argue that it is worth it to lose a few games here and there to develop James Jones and Pat Burke?
