OMR, don't worry about it. I'm dropping it, of course. mogrod, I just looked up the team defense for 3pt percentage. Not good at all. We were at the bottom of the league. 24th, I think. The surprising thing is that the whole league is bad at protecting the 3pt line. I will assume that you know that 33% at the 3pt line is the same as shooting 50% inside, right? Well, almost the entire league has 3pt defensive percentages above 33%. Detroit was the one team that held teams to under 33%(they were @32%). That makes me wonder if we should shoot more threes. We were making 5.7/g and giving up 6.6/g. Our effective percentage from the 3pt line was better than inside the 3pt line. ~50% from 3, ~45% from inside the 3 My strategy idea is pretty limited seeing that you're not going to the foul line when you shoot from outside, but I wonder what the statistical meaning of outshooting your opponent from the 3pt line is? If you hit more 3's than your opponent, does it lead to W's or L's? Help me Morey.
A little late, but I'm just pointing out that I don't know who A-Rod is either (at least until I read the post). Just saying... Oh, and another thing, who is this T-mac everyone keeps talking about? : I'm just kidding
Where are you going with that? I know the warriors jacked up a lot of shots from long range and didn't make the playoffs, but with stats you usually throw out the top few and bottom few as statisical anomolies(or whatever that word is).
Let's put this in perspective. Let's assume that everyone but Yao shoots 3 ptrs instead based on a .332 3-pt percentage. My back of the envelope estimates are: +5 ppg difference due to the 3 ptrs -11 ppg due to lost FTM's In other words shooting more 3's wouldn't have done the trick. Let me know if you want the gory details.
Yeah, in a league where players will trash a coach in a heartbeat a bunch of players, many retired or secure, won't trash Van Gundy because JVG can have them blackballed from the league or something I guess.
i think people are confusing telling the truth with talking bad about someone. the truth is that rafer needs to shoot above 35% to help the rockets more. Ok. I think rafer knows that as well. JVG was his typical self. telling what players need to do to help this team win. i heard someone comment about the turnover in JVGs tenure... a lot of that has to do with the lack of talent the rockets had in their organization. Sure, they had francis, cat and yao, but other than that it was pretty ugly due to a lot of poor drafts (thanks rudy).
Please don't bring Rudy up. He coached us to 2 championships! Got it! Let's be a little real here. You can say all the wonderful things about JVG you want but please don't try and put down a Rocket Legend in the process. He doesn't deserve it and you only sound like a troll when you do so.
yes we do have many others that can shoot the ball but he's probably downgrading rafer maybe because he probably wants refer to be starting PG! A Rod is Alex Rodriguez (sorry can't spell his last name) Awesome...awesome player Astros really need him!!!!
Couple of points, over the course of about 2 years, starting the end off their championship year through most of last year, Detroit has been awsume at defending 3s. Both in terms of % and numbers. Why? Well, they rarely had to double and have lots of players who can switch to multiple positions. While there is no way Yao can ever move quite like Ben Wallace, it appears the Rockets could largely play that way with a big 1 (VS or Head), big 2 (Wells or Snyder or CJ) and two very mobile and reasonably long forwards (Tmac and Battier). With Yao back there to block some shots (most Cs are not real threats far from the paint), we could really smother some people--inside and extended all through the floor. With Head, Battier and maybe Snyder (or CJ) camped at the 3 line with Tmac and Yao opperating there are no good poisons to pick when defending us either. Intriuging possibilities this year offensively and defensively. Please god no. The Astros have enough trouble hitting when they make the playoffs without one Alison Rodriguez.
Isn't he that guy that has the recurring toe problems......even in training camp this yr. They say inflamed with no pain.......add a few games of toe-toe bumping and jumping............this could get ugly folks. I hope I am full of shiit on this
I did not get to listen to the interview but when you get 100 different people interprting what he said, it gets taken out of context....I don't know how negative he was talking about Rafer but i'm sure it wasn't as bad as many of you are making it sound...can we hear the interview on 610s website ...anybody know?
