This team is built to be coached by Phil Jackson if we can get Barry. On the one hand, PJ adds 3 more rings to make it a dozen; on the other hand, Yao & TMac replace the Dream as the most respected Rockets ever.

Great deal on both ends.

i dont think they have to win it all per se in a certain time frame, but if they dont make a significant improvement in just the next year JVG will take a ton of heat. They need to be a contender come play off time.

He will complete his 4 year deal and sign a three year extension.

if they spend the rest of their careers with houston...and win multiple championships, I don't think they'll have too much trouble.

I don't live in Houston.

However, if Yao and TMac end up finishing their careers with the Rockets and together win 3 or more champs, I don't see any reason that they (especially Yao since he will be a life long Rockets by then) replace the Dream some day.

River, the problem is the Rockets were not close to most of the dominant teams in the West. Sacramento, Dallas, and San Antonio were much better than us last year. We sure played good against LA in the playoffs, but we matched up good with them. Thats why I think the trade happened. Because we really werent going anywhere. Last year's Rockets were at most a 2nd round team.

With the new team, competing better should not be a problem. Any coach can do that. What I would like to see is the Rockets get close to the same class as the Kings, San Antonio, Dalls, etc. If we get there and not win, it might be OK in the short term. I just want to be in the same class as them.......then may the best team win

I will tell you this though, if JVG's offense continues to struggle if we get B Barry, you will see plenty of b****ing going on.......and rightfuly so.....

Hakeem brought this city it's first major sports championship. Its more about how many he won, its that he broke a barrier that this city started to believe would never be broken. I wish Yao success, but he can't replace Dream.

And if you are not a fan of Houston sports in general, believe me, you don't understand.

No time frame. If McGrady and Yao get injured every year and we still make it to the Finals and barely lose, I say we keep JVG.

To people in Houston, Yao may never replace Dream. Heck, there are some Houston fans that place Hakeem as the G.O.A.T., which is rediculous, as he is at best the 3rd best center. To basketball fans (especially those who pick Bill Russell as the best ever, <- not me) in general, Yao winning 3+ championships and being a dominant player could certainly move him past Hakeem.

In the next 3 years we should know

If we improve this year, and then contend the next couple years
for the championship we would be on course.

Of course if we were to win a championship over the next 3 years
then sign him to a long term deal.

If we aren't contending (top 3 in the west) by end of 2005-2006
season. He will and should be on the hottest of hot seats

As much a i love Yao, He'll never be good as Olajuwon. The Dream Shake Was Sick. Hakkems footwork was beyond belief. i've never seen a big man with his footworks.

Never say never. Let's judge Yao's career in 12 years when he calls it the end.

Thats not the point. The point is that you are not giving Dream respect for what he did for his 15 years.

Why the comparison? They are all rocket. Houston will be blessed if Yao
could win more championships than Hakeem.

That being said. I don't see Yao become more atheletic and skillful than
Hakeem. But basketball is a team game. Hakeem had had little trust in
his teammates until 8th season, which Yao has learned it since day 1.
He also has the luxury to play with TMac. Thus I won't be surprised Yao
win more than Hakeem.

Correction: Yao and Hakeem are different type of players. Hakeem dominated
with his skills and atheletism, while Yao can dominate with his size and skills.

The guy just got us to the playoffs for the first time in 5 years, and got us a #7 seed no less. I think he's off to a great start myself. You can't go around being ready to fire a guy after one year just because he coached a team you didn't like. I'm willing to bet that JVG will be here for awhile.
