Here's a suggestion: How about everyone send Mayor Bill White's office an email for designating tomorrow as JVG day. This would be a great way for the city to show its support. I'm sure with the game being tomorrow, all the national networks would pick up on it.
lets save that idea and wait till the Rockets beat Dallas in game 7. then we can start talking about jvg day and jvg parades and jvg libraries and jvg parks and jvg streets and all that.
Your sardonic humor aside, I think it's irrelevant whether we beath Dallas or not. We've all been crying about the officiating on Yao for quite some time now. JVG finally stands up and lashes out about it, and gets slapped with a $100K fine (with his job security being threatened). Now he's taking a beating in the national media, so it would be nice for this city to show its support behind him.
I know but sometimes shortening of words get to far. I mean you wouldn't refer to your country as your count. (Pronounce the first syllable of country phoenetically.)
Dude chill, I edited it for you. It was plainly obvious what "tom" meant when you read it in the context it was used in. Keep in mind that this is a Rockets "forum"; nobody's writing a formal essay or dissertation here.
If JVG doesn't feel the city support by now, he'll never be aware of it. It's a nice thought but something tells me a JVG Day would be a bit too much for JVG. Right now enough is being done to show support for him and there's already going to have to be an effort on his part to keep all this out of his players and coaching staffs thoughts so they can focus on the game tomorrow.
oschada, forget all that i said. i'm with you man. you're right. Post Mayor Whites email address on here.
Mayor Bill White City of Houston P.O. Box 1562 Houston, TX 77251 PHONE: 713.247.2200 It's probably too late to go thru the formal process of getting a proclamation request. However, i'm going to call the office to see what they say.... Let me give you my reasons for this: 1. Inexpensive- unlike many other ideas floating around on the board, this requires no monetary funds to implement. All that is needed is a simple proclamation by one man. 2. National Attention- this will likely garner national attention by ESPN, CNNSI, etc... 3. Would Send a Message to Stern- that while he considers JVG's comments on the bottom of the "banter", this city of 5 million does not percieve it that way. I'll let you know what they say
I talked to the supervisor of scheduling in the Mayor's office, he was all for it; but he said he would first need to contact the Rockets to make sure they would be ok with it. He said he would take it from here. So, we'll just have to wait and see what happens.
i caught a little bit of 610 as i was about to walk in to work, and it sounded like this already is confirmed. is it JVG day?
This will be difficult (today as the day) because it is also the 5th of May (Cinco de Mayo) and it will confuse most of us Mexicans living in Houston... Ummm... forgive me for giving a Mexican STOP to this... but... "VIVA" stuff is reserved for "El Grito de Dolores" which is on the 15th of September at 23:00. You wouldn't want us to say "The British Are Coming!" on Juneteenth, would you? You can say: "Arriba Gundy!", but save the "viva's" for Mexico Independence Day, not Cinco de Mayo. Meh. Ahhhhh, what the hey... "VIVA JEFF VAN GUNDY!!!!!"
Hmm.. that's interesting. I always thought that "viva" in this context (based on vivir = "to live") would just generally mean "long live the Gundy." eh... We need a better slogan. How about "Kiss my Gundy" ? Beso mi Gundy! ? -- droxford
