Shawn Marion has a huge deal on a team that needs additional space to retain its other stars. The Suns just traded for a more traditional PF in Thomas. The have to make a decision about matching Joe Johnsons contract from Atlanta in the next few weeks. They have Nash, Stoudamire (sp?), Thomas, Johnson,

The Rockets have three expiring contracts in Wesley, Baker, and Weatherspoon that seem to get close to the cash that is due to Marion.

I do not know how a trade might work; draft choices, additional players, etc., but how do you all think Marion would fit with T-Mac and Yao?

I think he is small for a traditional PF and have not really seen his defensive game. His offensive percentages are as follows:

    Year Ag Tm Lg G FG% 3P% FT%
    2005 26 PHO NBA 81 .476 .334 .833
    6 Seasons 452 .463 .349 .838

So fellow members, please comment on how you think he would fit with the team, whether you think the trade is even a possibility. Thanks!

After Marion's disappearance against the Spurs? I think they'd take JJ because a trio of Nash, Amare, and JJ is more well rounded that Nash, Amare, Marion. A passer, a shooter, and a dunker.

Well put. Let's face it, if the Suns were smart, they'd take a guy that could handle the ball, create his shot at times, and play perimeter defense over a guy who's basically made his career as a garbage man. But that's neither here nor there. The more important question is can the league rescind Colangelo's GM of the year award? Let's face it, the guy has shown less than 1/10 of the foresight of the best GMs in the league.

Why would they need to keep Marion when they have a bigger, stronger, more dominant version in Amare? The only thing that Amare lacks vs. Marion is perimeter shooting..but he more than makes up for that with high % FGs (i.e. dunks).

I'd love to have Marion but there's no way in hell that the Suns would trade Marion to us. We'd have to be gutted like the last time we dealt with Phoenix (Barkley trade). And we don't have many pieces that they would want.

Great player. Would love to have him but no way is it going to happen.

No they wouldn't, especially now since they traded Q for a PF.

If Orlando was smart, they would have traded TMac to Phoenix for JJ and SM.

Agreed. The Pacers offer for TMac was better than ours also.

The problem was 1) Phoenix NEVER offered that package. It was one or the other, not both. and 2) Tmac wanted to go to Houston so other teams were leery of dealing for him if he wasnt going to sign with that team longterm.

The Suns will never deal with the Rox right now.You can also include Dallas and SA. Why? The rox are too close to being the team. With the youth of McGrady and Ming, no contending team in the conference will deal with us.
