It's not. It is boring and tedious, but still necessary.

If you had your laptop or Iphone though how would your day be different on duty or not?

When I went I was in the civil trial pool. We were there through voir dire and that took us into lunch.

After lunch they selected a jury. The case was about a criminal lawyer that was suing an oil company over a mineral rights lease.

The crim attorney asked if anyone had a problem with lawyers. No one raised their hand. (Dumb move people - that was your ticket out.)

He said does anyone really like lawyers? I raised my hand. He said "you actually like lawyers? I said yes because I am one. He asked me what type of practice I had. I said I didn't, I was an adjunct professor. He said what class and when I said "Business Law" he got this oh crap look on his face.

The other side noticed that for every other question after that, the jury pool was looking to me for cues on how they should answer. I'm sure they both wanted to use their strikes against me to avoid a jury of one.

    I was dismissed at 2:00.
The note I got from Harris County said we were dismissed at 5:00.

I've typically been let go around noon. The last time, a couple of months ago, I didn't get released until 5 O'clock.

Same here. I don't understand why so many complain.

So you're sitting waiting to "be picked."
So you get a bit of cash for your time.
So just do it and quit complaining.
    What's the big deal?

SWEET! I have MoCo jury duty on Monday. I work near Greenway Plaza from 7 am - 4 pm everyday, so I was just happy I could show up in Conroe at 9. That's at least an 90 minutes more sleep...

Turns out it's even better. Get paid by my empolyer to enjoy a Monday off. See kids, civic duty pays off!!

be opinionated, stick to your guns, scare them into thinking you're a loose cannon and then get out of it.

One of the things that really get to me is people intentionally skipping out on jury duty. Our formal responsibilities as citizens of this Republic are quite few: voting and jury duty... and both should be performed with the highest degree of enthusiasm and gratitude as well as a sense of building on what others have done and for those to come. You shirkers absolutely undermine liberty and free government. If you're ever a plaintiff or defendant, I hope you don't get the jury you deserve.

Cool. If you look at your summons, you should be able to go online and have your case assigned to you before you even show up. That way you can go straight to your assigned courtroom instead of the assembly room beforehand. It might even tell you to be there an hour later if you do it that way - I don't remember.

Harris County could learn a thing or 2 from Montgomery....

Welp I was called to walk to the courthouse after my last post and then I sat outside of a courtroom in a hall with no chairs for about 3 hours. That sucked.

Then the entire panel was called in, told that it was a felony case for a mile long list of sick and disgusting charges that basically involved sex with a child. When the attorney saw that the day had come and the trial was about to start they decided to plea.

Thanks a bunch for wasting my time child rapist.
