so i am sitting in a large room with a bunch of other people wondering what i am in for. how long is the average stay?
only a few more hours to go KEEP ON TRUCKIN'! KEEP ON TRUCKIN'! KEEP ON TRUCKIN'! KEEP ON TRUCKIN'! KEEP ON TRUCKIN'!
I was selected in a large group called Orange (about 40 people) and they led us outside and to the Criminal court. I think I left after jury vetting at around 3:30pm. they gave us an hour lunch break. Just remember If you have any problem or feel like you can't follow "the letter of the law" just raise your hand. Trust me, I had lots of problems with some of the laws.
When I got selected for jury duty, I just fiddled around with my dong for 3 days straight, and then said the guy was not guilty of arson b/c he looked like a bro I would hang out with on the weekend.
Unless you need the money, or work compensates you while you are there, I would lie and get out. When I did jury duty I was there for 5-6 hours to not get picked. They really should have picked me.
Could be till lunch, could be six weeks. But you have to do it. It is the way a civilized society works. (Even if you are stupid)
Yeah you could be a lazy, self centered shirk. That's one way to go. You can milk your way through life enjoying the freedom other people provide for you , insulated from the chaos of the rest of the world without ever contributing your precious time, You could do that.
I did Montgomery County jury duty for the first time a few months ago. The process is so much more juror-friendly than Harris County. It's not the cattle call that Harris County is. There were so few people in the assembly room that I had to ask if I was in the right place. The whole process took about 2 1/2 hours from start to finish and the note they gave us for work didn't have a time listed on it - just that I had jury duty that day. I was out of there before noon. Needless to say, I took the rest of the day off.
I hate jury duty! I think I've had to go 5 times and I have actually been picked 3 times. One was a corporate fraud case and lasted a week. I had to struggle to keep my eyes open in court. Another was some guy trying to sue Shell Oil for $2-3M. We didn't award him shiyat. I should have spoken up when the defense attorney initially asked all potential jurors "If we will hold any personal grudges against oil companies due to the recent hike in oil prices". Or something to that effect. I should have said hell yeah and think would have gotten dismissed. But I didnt and that trial lasted 2-3 days I think.
I'm jealous. I think doing jury duty would be neat, but for something good...not fraud or anything. Maybe I could be on the jury for the kid that got his ass handed to him by that tranny. That would be interesting.
