OK, this gives me a little hope... sort of like when an abusive husband takes his wife to the hospital after breaking her arm...

    Malicki says...

    While Bush says...

Notice the qualifier for the first time... until now, it's been "until the job is finished" or the "mission accomplished." Now, it's “We’re going to stay in Iraq to get the job done so long as the government wants us there.”

So, sounds like there's a back room deal... Malicki says out by June 2007, Bush says, "OK, sounds like victory." The troops are out before the '08 race begins in earnest.

Of course, left unsaid is that Malicki probably leaves the day after we do and lives on the CIA dime for the rest of his life in St. Moritz.

    Thoughts?

The stupidity of all this is that there's no way he can know whether his troops will be ready by June 2007 because too much can happen in that time frame. If we've learned ANYTHING from this misadventure, it should be that we (and Iraqi's government) are not in control of the timetable for anything right now.

^Well politicians love giving false assurances to the people who want to believe in them.

Case in point is the giant crater inside NYC that's been relatively untouched for 4 years.
