I have seen Yoa Ming miss too many dunks and it looks like in order for Yao Ming to start domenating in the paint he needs to do one thing jump higher, he has gotten stronger, he has great foot work, a nice shot and of course he is 7-6. No one should block his shot or stop him from dunking. Jump Jump Yoa Ming.

That's nice in theory, there buddy, but everyone gets blocked. I distinctly remember a skinny, rookie in Eddie Griffin, block Shaq twice. And both blocks came in the same game, at that. Step back down to earth.

He cannot jump as high as others, it is a matter of fact. But he is taller than most other NBA players, a matter of fact too.

There are a few 7 footers coming into the league next year, with good jumping ability. It will be interesting to see them outjump Yao.

Griffin is 6'10" with possibly a 7 foot wingspan. Shaq is 7'1". That's only a 3 inch difference.

Yao at 7'6" is getting swatted by people that are 6'7". That's almost a 1 foot difference. If those people tried to swat a Shaq dunk, they'd lose an arm.

He needs to learn how to box out as he goes up to dunk...make himself bigger by spreading out his elbows and jumping a little bit BACKWARDS to initiate contact.

    Yao needs to get stronger.

How many times did AK and Tag block Yao? Yao shot 6 out of 12. Ak had 5 blocks, Tag had 2, they can't block him more than 6 times. No one else on the Utah team had any blocks.

By the way, AK is 6'9" not 6'7"

Actually Yao can FLY if he's agressive enough. And it would be nice if francis is 8 feet and 400 pounds with the same altheticism.

After Yao was fouled once, Eric Piatkowski went up to Yao and made that same motion to Yao as an on-court coach. Just as you said DD, Yao knows this he just has to develop this technique.

    Yao Wink,

Interesting, I missed that...I hope he learns, just by playing bigger he will get to the foul line a lot more often.

How long are AK47's arms? His arms seem to be longer than his legs.

AK I'd bet has the wingspan of a seven footer. Some guys have really long arms and that helps them block shots. Yao shouldn't get blocked in general, but it will happen. AK is a good shot blocker.

I just saw the extended highlights on ESPN NBA Fastbreak. Saw a reply of one of the AK47 blocks on Yao. Yao had backed his way to the basket against Bordchard, did one too many pump fakes, went up, got blocked, and then got smacked on the arm - there was no call. Some of this lack of call stuff is legit. Shaq-fu would just stuff it home and get fouled, but that's not Yao's game.

And to think, I pay money to watch Yao do Kelvin Cato dunks. (Although to his credit Cato did finish a drive with a dunk tonight.)

I couldn't agree more. I watched a clip from last season when he did that backing Ben Wallace back till he was under the hoop and then turned and dunked it in Wallace's face. That was amazing. I have the clip on my Computer. I wish he would do that more often, he did it so fast and with such aggression.

Yao is a slow jumper and can only jump a few inches off the ground. And, a lot of 6'7" players can jump higher than Yao can, even with his height/wing (short) span.

So add the those three facts, and Yao will get a lot of his shots blocked.

Height alone is not the determining factor.
