I know as a beat writer he can't afford to piss of the team, but his job is to report the news. I can't really remember the last time feigen actually broke a rockets story. I think yahoo sports broke the news about yao's broken foot. Now we have a columnist from the same paper contradicting him. As a journalist isn't it time he stopped being the rockets pr guy? and started working on the fans behalf since they are the ones that pay him his salary?
That's false. Yahoo was all over that story before Feigen or anyone else. EDIT: If you were talking about when it happened in the playoffs, my mistake. I thought you meant the news that he'd most likely miss this season, which imo was the biggest scoop. Here's the story as well as the BBS thread with breaking reaction: http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=aw-yaorockets062909 http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=171050
The day he starts reporting the truth is the day he stops being told the truth. He knows more than he is allowed to report. In general though he is out of the loop. He wrote something bashing tmac last year and that didn't go well, so he is very cautious. In general he is in a tough spot
Yeah I think Feigen is great. He's critical but also constructive (unlike Justice who mostly just whines). The Yahoo story is sounding just increasingly untrue (or at least irresponsible in some of its assumptions), and Feigen delicately showed why in his blog today. He needs access to be relevant and he loses access if he prints thigns that are wrong. So he's careful (unlike yahoo) to get it right.
Jonathan is good at strategy and game management but he is not the type to get a scoop, similar to Jesus Ortiz with the Stros. Ask them about the game, team and decision but inside info isn't going to happen but sometimes if you read between the lines he will drop a hint very rarely though.
I'm sorry, but I trust Adrian Warjonski now completely. I think Yahoo! sports has proven they are more about breaking the story and less about creating it. I think Feigen was doing damage control for Houston and the NBA. If Tmac does come back this team is a hell of a lot more marketable. No stars allstars is a hard sell, no matter how amazing the games are. Hell, look at the game last night against Atlanta. Basketball fans should love it, it had everything, give and take, suspense and a last minute win. With Bibby and Ariza tho, it's a really hard sell. All in all, after the whole Yahoo! Yao foot thing, I'm more prone to believing Yahoo! in these cases....
Feigen is doing damage control, but in a way that's a good thing. Fans and media tend to take a stories like these and go wild with it. The drama spirals out of control, and it often does become overblown. Then it becomes a distraction to the team. All the attention starts exacerbating what issues might exist. Its good to have a counterbalance to that.
Feign always seems beat out for scoops long before this incident. How is berman always the one to break the story? You have to have credibility as a journalist.
I 've been wondering about this too. His only job is to cover the Rockets, but in recent years it seems like Espn and Yahoo sports have been breaking the breaking news about the Rockets. Heck even Mark Berrman beats him to the punch, and he has to cover the other team in Houston.
Yeah but what if that means he has to twist the facts a bit? Is that ok too? The Yahoo and Chron accounts are so different that one has to be lying or not telling the entire truth. I know it's just sports but still...
Feigan seems to be the best source of info but only if you ask the right questions. He doesnt seem to offer that info willingly.
