Surprised there's not been any discussion on this odd turn of events. Joey is pretty much the greatest American athlete in history. Not having him in Nathan's will most likely drive viewership down 90%. Sponsor conflict keeping Joey Chestnut out of hot dog eating contest So he's gonna do his own thing... Joey Chestnut to face Takeru Kobayashi in Labor Day hot dog battle Joey Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi -- the top dogs of the competitive eating world -- are ready to eat in the same arena for the first time since 2009. The two gastronomic icons, who have won a combined 22 Mustard Belts at the Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest, will face off in an all-beef hot dog battle against each other Sept. 2 in an event to be streamed on Netflix. The location for the event has yet to be determined. Dammit! USA USA USA
I quit watching that competition when he beat Kobeyashi in 09. It was disgusting. Watching people shove food down their gullet, as fast as they can, in an allotted time frame is just gross. i remember Kobeyashi nearly hurling trying to defend his title.
Do not disparage Joey, it’s shameful. Not only is he americas greatest athlete he is also the most important cultural ambassador of all the is great about this country.
Impossible Meat is disgusting and unhealthy. I'll be rooting for Kobayashi and also for Chestnut to be thrown in Gitmo.
Can anyone really tell the difference between a faux meat dog and a real one when you're shoveling them down every second?
Before one of the hot dog eating contests I saw a demonstration where on an anatomical dummy they shoved in 70 hot dogs and buns into it's stomach. The stomach inflated so much it dislocated the lower ribs. What Joey Chestnuts and other competitive eaters do is super human.
I named my cat Kobayashi. She can throw down James Coney Island like a cat boss, and she's always ready to compete.
and they should be loaded like a nice James Coney Island HD, all the way baby.............I would watch that!! PS, what the hell happened to JCI, there all closing and the one that I ate at not too long ago sucked and was ridiculously $$$
Folks have been waiting for a Chestnut v. Kobayashi one on one hot dog battle for like 15 years. This is like waiting for Mayweather vs. Pacquiao and when we finally got it Pacquiao was already washed.
I thought this was about some country-pop music person I knew nothing about, instead it's about a professional eater I know nothing about.
Well...you might've redeemed yourself some by using the Imperial system...and not the Metric system. Your status has been upgraded.
I was gonna say that Chestnut is the American athlete we deserve, but with inflation as it is, he's also the American athlete we need. May the hotdogs ever be in his favor.
