[job interview]help!

    so i have a job interview tomorrow. Normally these things do not phase me but I applied for a marketing job earlier today sort of on a whim because it looked appealing, had a competitive pay structure and training program for upward mobility and expansion and the corporate office was about 1 mile from my apt.

    i honestly didnt think I would have a chance since i took like 2 courses on marketing years ago, and most of my professional experience is in the IT field. I do have about a year total of retail sales experience in which I excelled in but ultimately left because of poor pay.

    But I received an email about an hour ago from their HR dept saying that they liked my resume and asked me to call in. I called in and they set up an interview for tomorrow at 2pm. I agreed to do so and now I that I agreed I am excited but at the same time have no idea what sort of questions may be asked in this sort of interview. What is considered a "no-no" to say and all. I mean in the past the interviews I have had for IT related positions I haven't had issues with, and though I may not have always gotten the job I always walked into and left confident. I am actually nervous for tomorrows since its really not my field of expertise.

    anyone here in corporate types or marketing that can offer any advice? I am a pretty outgoing guy so being comfortable and talking to the interviewer shouldn't be too much of an issue. I just dont want to hit a wall if I am asked a question I am not prepared to answer.

    Be ware of the typical "pyramid scheme" type marketing firms. They are are out there. If you emailed you just today, and set up an interview tomorrow with only a phone call, it could be just that. Usually for a good job, you need to do a phone interview and then a on site interview the next week.

    Just my personal experience: When I was desperately job searching this time last year, I got a phone call out of no where from a "marketing" company that I never applied for. They said that they are scheduling interviews for imidiate openings and promised great earning potential. So I went in the next day to a bussiness/commercial shopping center 3 miles away from my house.

    After waiting outside the interview room for 20 minutes with 4 other applicants, I went in and had a 4 minute interview with this one guy. Then after that I was invited for a second "interview" the next day as sort of a first day on the job training. I was really excited at that point.

    But the next day was the worst day of my life as I wasted the entire day, walking house to house in a distant neiborhood, trying to sell Direct TV.

    So make sure it's legit. You can usually tell if their job description is really clear and specific, and they have a legit website.

    They have a website and it looks like they are small but are looking to expand right now.

    and the position was for sports marketing...The job description was a bit vague but I am sure I will be given more information tomorrow at the interview


    edit: I am not desperately looking for a job right now...I have a job and will have one probably for the next 2-3 months until my current company is sold. Then I dont know I am just searching now because I dont want to be desperately looking for something.

    Ok here's a quote from their What We Do section

    "It is our experience that the power of a personal, LIVE presentation is the most effective way to advertise. We introduce ourselves to various businesses, on behalf of our client, to establish relationships with the decision makers. .... TAG's in-person approach to marketing creates the most direct personal link between our clients and their potential or existing customers."

    Sure sounds like what I interviewed for last year. And if the position is titled "sports advertising" then you'll prob. be selling or advertising for local sports team season tickets. If I'm right a Sales and Marketing Professional will need to either go door-to-door or go to a retail store and try to sell their products to random people.

    This could be something right for you. Just go into the interview tomorrow with a possitive attitude but with open eyes and ears. ;) I wish you luck, man.

    yeah i saw that after you mentioned it. If they don't specify tomorrow what they mean by "live presentations" i will politely decline any offers they may make to me. its one thing if they mean live by going to a potential clients office to make a presentation, its another thing to go door to door like you said.

    that is not something I want to do even if its for better pay.

    It's great to hear that you're not desperately job searching right now. I'm actually in a similar postion as you. My company will be doing a HUGE down-sizing by April of 09 and they've already told me that I have the highest chance of getting layed off.

    I'm currently in the aerospace/defense industry but really want my next job to be in the Biomedical Engineeing/Technology industry. Somewhere in southern Orange County area.

    Yeah this is definitely not a strategy type company. I have a corporate / marketing background, albeit in a specific industry. If you read their case study on AT&T, basically their are an outsourced sales force. There's no "marketing" it's just "sales."
