Has anyone ever heard this theory? This is from the current espn.com exchange between Bil Simmons and Malcolm Glidewell. They are discussing a book written by Bill James about True Crime. There is a bit about the Kennedy Assassination in the book. Glidewell's comment is: James loves the Kennedy book Mortal Error by Bonar Menninger, which is based on the work of a Baltimore ballistics expert named Howard Donahue. Donahue's focus is on the mysterious third bullet that hit Kennedy — and that ended up killing him. It didn't behave like the first two bullets. It disintegrated inside Kennedy's skull, for instance, which a bullet fired from Oswald's rifle should not have done. And from where Oswald was situated it is hard to see how the bullet could really have traveled in the trajectory that it did. The questions surrounding the third bullet are a big part of the reason so many people believe in a conspiracy. So what was Donahue's explanation? There was a second gunman. But it wasn't an assassin. It was a Secret Service man named George Hickey who heard the first two shots, panicked, and let off a shot that hit the president in the head. It was all a tragic accident. Hickey's AR-15 rifle matches the ballistics and trajectory of the fatal bullet perfectly. And numerous eyewitnesses reported seeing him grab his weapon and wave it about. I could go on. James describes in brilliant detail just how convincing this particular explanation is. After watching the myth busters episode on the magic bullet, I've given up on a second gunman theory.
When something is labeled a 'conspiracy theory', science no longer matters because anyone who speculates is labeled a 'conspiracy theorist' and loses all credibility regardless of their expertise. I did read an article recently that said a second gunmen in the killing of RFK was likely. JFK I think was just Lee Harvey.
Read Vince Bugliosi's masterpiece on the JFK assassination. It's so long, it's incredible. He is convinced, and convincing in his book, that Oswald was the lone shooter. I read the book, and am convinced that Oswald was the lone shooter, and that the shots were fairly lucky, but not impossible. Now, I read the book like five years ago, so I've forgotten much of it, but this new theory could have some plausibility. Whatever the scenario, Oswald was the only true assassin. Two more thoughts: -Vince Bugliosi is an absolute genius who should be honored for both his writing and his prosecuting. -I know nothing about prosecuting, but his stats don't lie. Waits for this thread to go 20 pages.
This is not a new theory. I've owned that book for many years. Hickey tried to sue this guy for defamation but settled out of court.
True story: Showtime originally ran a mock trial in the 1980's of Oswald. It was conducted in London, using the same Federal US Judge that would have possibly overseen Oswald's trial, real Dallas citizen's as jurors, real witness (those still living), and a replica of the courtroom that would have held the trial. The attorneys were Bugliosi (prosecuting) and Gerry Spence (defending), an attorney from Texas (I believe) who never lost a case in his 50-year career. No script, no holds-barred, as close to real life as it could have been. Guilty verdict was returned rather swiftly, if I remember what I read. Anyways, Reclaiming History: The Assassination of President John F. Kennedy is the book. It's amazing all of the information Bugliosi puts out in it. It took him like 25 years of research to put it together (a lot of the research done for the mock trial). I think it's a must for anyone that has any interest in this subject.
Kennedy sympathizer with a screw loose that knew most of the Dallas PD well enough to sneak into the parking garage without a press pass and a gun.
I actually started reading this book in college but quit when I decided the theory was too far-fetched. And this is coming from a guy who doesn't believe Oswald acted alone. [ducks for cover]
I believe Oswald acted alone as well. I had just never heard this SS agent theory until reading about it today. The book Mortal Error was published 20 years ago.
