Apparently Jermaine O'Neil is on the trading block. He is a C/PF but he is very skinny. I thought when this guy demanded the bucks it was a joke. However, he does have some potential which he is not allowed to tap in to due to the Blazers immense depth. He is a base year player, meaning it would be hard for Portland to get much talent in return. What do you guys think in trying to acquire this guy? He would complete are frontcourt of the future with Cato. And then we would be one Tracy McGrady away from being a powerhouse.

wouldn't that just leave them with sabonis at center?

he's getting pretty old. who's going to back him up now and in the future if they trade oneal?

are they stupid enought to give us oneal for hamilton and maybe tmass or kenny thomas?

    i sure as hell wouldn't.

I was thinking maybe we could get involved in a 3-way deal with the Bucks and Blazers. Hopefully landing us one of these 4 players:

    Ervin Johnson
    Tim Thomas
    Haywood Workman
    Jermaine O'Neil

I think Jermaine O'Neil would be a good fit for this team. He is very young, very athletic, and can block shots as well as rebound. And has shown potential to be an offensive threat. It would give us a possible future line up of:

    C: Cato
    PF: O'Neil
SF: Draft pick or Anderson or Rogers
    SG: Mobley or Anderson
    PG: Francis

Wham, you said it would only leave them with Sabonis, but last week when sabonis was out injured, Grant played centre and O'neill still didn't see much action

I'm sorry, but Jerm is just too lazy and immature right now. He is in Dunleavey's doghouse, and I don't think he is responding well enough to his troubles. When he gets in there he should be going crazy crashing the boards, EXPECTING the feed into him down low, etc. He just doesn't have the intensity. He is NOT a Kobe Bryant or Kevin Garnett diamond in the rough.

Even if they wanted to, how could the Rockets possibly make a Jermaine O'Neal deal work under the cap? He just signed a big contract and he's a base year player. That means that Portland would only get 50% of his current value in return, yet the Rockets would have to fit O'Neil's entire salary under the cap.
For Example, let's say that O'Neal is making $6 million this year (probably about right). That means that Portland can only get $3M in return for O'Neal. But the team that gets O'Neal will have to fit his entire $6M under the cap. The only way that's possible is if that team can somehow get $3M under the cap before making an O'Neal trade. Since there's no way for the Rockets to get under the cap by $3M, this deal isn't even an option.

Jermaine O'Neil doesn't have game. His has way too thin of frame to be an efffective center in the NBA, except in Don Nelson's mind [IMG]
