Lin Moneyball style - Morey where you at? http://finance.yahoo.com/news/the-delivery-guy-who-saw-jeremy-lin-coming-.html
That and his team having no better options. I think this most likely happens in bad tanking teams with young high draft picks (Cousins last year), the Lin scenario is very strange. Team is actually winning with him, and he was u drafted.
What are you talking about? Dallas and Memphis are winning ahead of the Rockets in the standings. Need them to LOSE to improve the Rockets playoff chances. If Dallas and Memphis went on losing streaks, at most it gets a shrug of the shoulders. SAME EXACT thing goes with a pick.
So why don't we give Westbrook the same benefit of the doubt? Turnover prone....yes. Turning the ball over at a historic rate (since numbers over a short stretch is "historic")....no. In this 8 game run Lin is avg 5.8 turnovers per game (1, 8, 2, 6, 6, 8, 6, 9). It's 6.4 a game if you only count the starts. If any other PG, even a young one, were turning over the ball like that he would be getting reamed for it. We reamed Francis and he was only avg 4 a game his rookie season, when he was 22. We reamed AI and he avg 4.4 when he was 21. We still ream Westbrook and he avg 3.3 as a 20 year old and is up to 4.3 this season. Let's not brush it off as if it's "ok". Not necessarily you, but it's just funny to me how we give this dude the benefit of the doubt but not these other young PG's. Almost having a trip dub with turnovers 3 times in 8 games is problamatic. And since I'm supposedely only concerned about LeBron, I still recall his Game 6 against Boston (great defense) where he had 27, 19, 10 and got killed partly because of the 9 turnovers. Lin is definately doing other things very, VERY well but the turnovers are a big problem. Hopefully he won't cut them down (nothing against him but my #1 loyalty lies to my Rockets and the status of our draft pick).
I was surprised some people were rooting for the Lakers and Timberwolves against the Knicks, especially since the West standings are so close 5 through 10. Every loss to other West teams matters, especially since both Lakers/Wolves hold the season series over us. We're making a hard push for the playoffs, we're not rebuilding (like we should be by it's evident Les isn't interested). Hope Mavs lose tomorrow against the Knicks, can never root for them.
I was, because I would feel better if we get at least 1 lotto pick. I think the worst case scenario for us is to wind up with two picks in the 14-15 range.
In general Westbrook does get the benefit of the doubt since he's widely considered a top 6 PG despite his turnover problem, probably because his team is winning. He gets a lot more flack here than anywhere else but most everybody acknowledges as a great player...the same way I acknowledge that Lin has the potential to be one despite his turnovers.
Westbrook does get a lot of flacks for his "brainlessness." But he is still considered one of the best PGs in the league. So what's the point? The case of Westbrook actually defeat your own argument that Lin's TO problem makes him not as much a star as people think.
well, if the warriors only hit 50% of all the 3 pters they made they rockets would've won if the wolves doesnt make 80% all the 3pters they did in the 4th qtr, the rockets would've won. If Durant makes one of the 3 shots he attempted in the last seconds, they would have won over the rockets. If lebron played well in the 4th qtr of the NBA Finals they would be the champions. how do I know that Ayon is becoming the best defender on the hornets, If I didnt watch the game? you cant tell how hard he plays at defense by looking at the boxscore.
We do give Westbrook the benefit if the doubt. He is selected to be an All Syar and his team signed him to a max deal. Enough benefit for you?
There's 9 hours left until the NYK/Mavs game tipoff, but Jeremy Lin already has committed his first turnover.
So I guess we give LeBron the benefit of the doubt too, since he makes All-NBA teams, All-Star games and has a max deal? That doesn't mean he doesn't get reamed for being a choker, the same way those other PGs (Westbrook included) get reamed for being turnover prone. The point is we don't gloss over it in their situations. We are highly critical of that aspect of their game.
I don't get it, Lebron is a 2 time MVP in his 8th season in the league. Westbrook is in his fourth season. People aren't destroying Lin because this is essentially his official season with actual meaningful playing time. He hasn't even started 10 games yet. The standards are different.
Dude is getting superstar calls already. Unbelievable. Terry basically bumps him at the free throw line and gets a flagrant foul. Amazing.
