People need to stop with these crap comments. We had an established starting PG in Lowry, and a great back-up PG in Dragic. What we didn't have, was a good 5. Lin had to be let go because Dalembert needed to be signed. If we had kept Lin and not signed Dalembert, I bet that our record would be worse than it is right now. Linsanity < a logjam at the 1.
Just because you don't agree doesn't mean it's a crap comment. Established at what exactly? Yes Dalembert needed to be signed, but the garbage on this team could have been cut instead (the 09'ers.) And our record would practically be the same, we'll finish a little above .500.
We chose to keep Adrien over Lin for that 15th spot, but the comment still doesn't make sense. I don't get what this has to do with treating players like assets. One of them had to get cut, and it looks like we just chose the wrong guy.
Exactly, Jeff Adrien is no less human than Jeremy Lin, no? Hell, even Thabeet is human in his own way.
Established at the PG position. I doubt Lin would have taken Lowry's starting spot, or even Dragic's spot, at the beginning of the season. I could be wrong, seeing how good Lin is right now, but just based on experience, I think Lin would have still sat behind Lowry and Dragic. Um, our record would practically be the same if we never had Dalembert, but instead, had a logjam at the 1 of Lowry/Dragic/Flynn/Lin? I strongly doubt that. I also doubt our record, at the end of the season, would be the same with Lin and without Dalembert, as it would be if we had Dalembert and not Lin. I'm fairly confident we would have a worse record.
This. I think people are overlooking ALL the positives that Morey has done for the organization, and choose to only look at either the most recent blunder or the biggest blunder by our GM.
I doubt he would either, but there were a few people of this board who recognized the talent he had. It was clearly more than Flynn, Thabeet, or Twill. Dalembert could've been signed and all three of those guys let go (no one is going to trade for them.) This is only for the sake of conversation but our record would still be the same with our without those guys.
i think this system will work with melo. it reminds me of joe johnson's game back with nash. if melo can play that role and also be the closer, knicks will be dangerous!
if we had kept lin, all we'd have is a pretty talented guy getting next to no play time, his trade value would still be non existent because he never played. D'antoni's system tends to cause point guards to overperform, it's basically Nashball, he lets them do everything, but even if you don't have Nash's playmaking, you can chuck your way to decent numbers, he let Felton do the same thing, and his 'stats' we4re near all star level (17/9/3.5) in NY last year, Chandler would probably be the only reason Dragic wouldn't have multiple triple doubles if it was him. It's not like we can pull a euro move and lend players to the knicks to inflate their trade value.
Eastern Conference Player of the Week: Jeremy Lin with 27.8pts, 8.0 assists and leading the Knicks to 5 straight wins. Western Conference Player of the Week: WHO CARES!
Oh please, give me a break. Jeremy Lin was undrafted, meaning every single GM in the NBA passed on him. Anyone getting mad or putting anything bad on Morey for letting Lin go to make room for Dalembert is just being ridiculous. In fact, you should credit Morey for being one of the few teams that even took a look at him or attempted to sign him after he was let go by Golden State.
Yes, but we could have traded Dragic. HE has value, right? And he's making more than 4 times as Lin is.
That's what Morey did though, except Stern veto'ed the deal, leaving Morey with a pile of mess to clean up. So if Stern didn't throw his stinking hand into the deal, Lin would be with us right now. That is the original plan, that is the plan that was supposed to happen but didn't for "basketball reasons". And even then, Morey tried to keep Lin, waiting for the very last minute before cutting him and signing Dalembert. Most likely because he was working out a package to clear room for Lin.
This. At least the Rockets were one of the few teams to actually bring him in. He honestly doesn't even deserve all the hype he is getting right now. He has played a stretch against very bad/tired teams. Tonight he was 8-24 with 6 turnovers. He has amassed 20 turnovers in the last 3 games alone. His usage rate is through the roof. Not a good thing at all. It isn't hard to fill up a stat sheet when you are given 39 minutes per game. Especially when you are this brutally inefficient. The Knicks finally got a decent point guard for a point guard dominant system. Lin could have nice career but come on guys. Are we serious?
Now that you mention it, man what I'd give to see a Lowry/Lin backcourt with a Gasol/Nene/Chuck frontline. STEEERRRRRRRNNNNNN!!
That's what I have pointed out a few days ago. Anyway, I don't blame Morey for cutting Lin AT THAT TIME. It was a reasonable move. But looking back, he should have still kept Lin and tried to trade Dragic if he knew Lin was this good. I am sure whatever we could get from trading Dragic would be better than a guy like Adrien. I think Morey would agree in hindsight. Anyway if it wasn't NY who Lin is helping, it wouldn't have hurt so much.
