I think it's a good signing for them. Him and Starks will add some scoring options for them.

Man are they an even older team now however!

I don't think it's beyoned the realms of possibility that the Jazz could make the Finals again, but they will need EVERYTHING to fall into place.

Jazz....Finals? They are a Karl Malone injury away from lottery. But anyways, they have no depth, a really old team, and not even a good starting five. I mean Ostertag, Malone, Russell, Starks, and Stockton are going to be good, but not great. Stockton wont be able to give u more than 30 minutes. Ostertag sucks. Malone and Russell are solid, but Starks is about as inconsistent as they come. None of them can make the outside shot consistently like Horny could. This would obviously hurt their inside game. And the bench includes: Vaughn, their rookie, Manning, and Olden Polynice. I dont know if there is a sorrier bence in the entire NBA. All this makes me damn happy!!!
The Jazz are going to SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't give them much chance as a finals team....I merely said it wasn't impossible.

If you watched last years series versus a hot Portland team, you'd see that Utah went pretty close to taking it to seven.

Horny was gone in that series...he was a HUGE defensive liability. Thus, Starks is an upgrade and will bring a hell of a lot of passion.

Manning brings another guy who can score. I think they have improved...

You look at the Jazz on paper, and you say, "Man, are they old. They will be terrible this year and years to come." But I have been saying that for years. They do the same things with the same guys year after year. They are strong year after year too. I cannot stand the Jazz, but they continue to win consistently. I am not thinking they will make the finals, but the conference semis are not out of reach for them. Manning still has some skills even with the bad wheels he is rolling on.

This is still a playoff team folks.

Manning and Starks each are on another planet compared to Hornacek. Sucks that they were able to get both to replace him...

HOOP-T's right. They're still amazingly going to make some noise.

Is there still any doubt that Stockton and Malone have sold their souls? [IMG]

jazz are threats, i hate to say it. cuz other than the fakers i hate them the most. but this might be the boost that manning needs 2 get back to the level he was on when he was with the clips. Course i would package starks with polynice 4 a REAL center, they have never had a good center i would make a run for lafrentz

    Lafrentz
    Malone
    Manning
    Russel
    Stockton

lewis, Stevenson(awesome player), ostertag, padgett, eisley(maybe) and jacque vaugn they need 2 keep eisley 2 win it all i think stockton is gettin awful old.they wil be a threat in the playoffs, but my favorites to win are the spurs. the 98 champion ship team plus derek anderson. elliot might be back at full strenght and if not daniels is developing VERY nicely. at 6'4 he has great size 4 a pg. from all this analtsis it makes me sound like a non rocket fan

Never happen. Period. The Nuggets will not deal LaFrentz right now, and probably never. Issel sees a lot of himself in LaFrentz and is expecing 15 points, 8 rebounds a game from him this season.

The Jazz suck. Their fans suck. The organization sucks (trust me on this one, I've had run-ins).

As much as I hate the Jazz, I think that they have a pretty solid rotation of players....
Here's a post Donyell Marshall trade lineup:

    C Olden Polynice
    PF Karl Malone
    SF Bryon Russell
    SG John Starks
    PG John Stockton

    SF Danny Manning
    SF Donyell Marshall
    SG Quincy Lewis
    PG Jacque Vaughn
    PG John Crotty
    C Greg Ostertag
    C Bruno Sundov
    PF Bill Curley

    Damn the Jazz!!
Not only have they made themselves into a decent contender for this season, they've secured themselves a chance at being a decent team in the future.
Somehow they got Stevenson in the draft and he could really pan out to be a superstar in the future - take away his athelticism and the guy could still score 15 points and dish out 10 assists in a game, his court sense is phenomenal.

Unfortunately Starksy just won't jurt the Jazz enough - he'll bring some veteran leadership (liek the Jazz need that!) - but more importantly will be able to work off the court with Stevenson and show him the defensive steps to succeed in the NBA. Given a season of playing behind Starks, DeShawn Stevenson should be ready to start next season and contribute nicely.

Don't forget Quincy Lewis is a nice athletic SF/SG type who showed last year he can contribute in the 4th.

Bryon Russell has a few good years left in him and despite the fact that he's never averaged a LOT of ppg, he can do a bit of everything and is an outstanding defender.

Marshall might have poor shot selection, but he is immensely talented and the Jazz always seem to get these sorts of guys to take smart shots - they don't get them to overachieve, but to use their talent to be a solid role-player.

If Bruno Sundov pans out like the Jazz hopes then they're going to have a smooth transition from the Stockton/Malone show to the Stevenson/Sundov show.

Rockets03 is right! A Karl Malone injury and things going badly and the Jazz are in the lottery (oh please!!!) - but how many times has Malone had an injury - even a minor one? (I hope he's due!!)

ScreamingRocketJet is also right!! It's NOT beyond the realm of POSSIBILITY that the Jazz will make the finals this year, that is if all things pan out for them....

I really think you guys are overexaggerating. The Jazz lost Hornacek, and that is a bigger loss than many think. Hornacek shot 11% better from the field, 12% better from behind the arc, and 10% better from the ft line than Starks (<A href="http://nuggets.rivals.com/default.asp?sid=610&p=2&stid=7986273">Source</a>). Right there, you're going to see a huge loss. Plus, everyone talks about Stevenson's future, but right now, he's a marginal bench player, at best.

And once again, I ask, who's their center? Osterstiff? Give me a break.

I thought about my take on this whole Manning thing, but I didn't like what I thought. Forget it. DAMN THE JAZZ! Manning will help this team. Starks will not be what Hornacek was, but he will still contribute. But I cannot legitimately see the Jazz in the Finals with teams like Portland and L.A. out West. They will be improved. But I can't see it being nearly enough, even with Marshall.

    Nuggets4,
Their center has been Ostertag for years now, and continually they are a solid playoff team, even contenders. I do not think they will be contenders, but they will make a little noise in the playoffs. Manning and Starks will help, as well as Marshall. Utah has been busy and has made some savvy moves.

I wish Houston would do the same.

    hehe

just enough additions to make them a playoff team.

NO high draft pick for them! Imagine the Jazz line up next year:

    C Olden Polynice
    SF Donyell Marshall
    SF Bryon Russell
    SG John Starks
    PG Jacque Vaughn

    SF Danny Manning
    SG Quincy Lewis
    PG John Crotty
    C Greg Ostertag
    C Bruno Sundov
    PF Bill Curley

and a middle of the road pick.

    HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
