Don't ignore this thread because you have mbad first thoughts about him. He has averaged 6.8 assists per game over his career, and really calmed down under Jerry West and Fratello. I think JVG would be able to do wonders with him. Maybe now that we got Swift we dont need to get him, but he would definately improve our backcourt. And he doesnt just jack up shots all day either like he used to.
    Thoughts?

how about Jay Williams, he is a free agent and can probably be had for the LLE. was drafted number 2 in 2002 so he has something in common with stro and Yao. He doesn't have to be the athlete he was at duke. He can be a great distributor in a couple of years and could probably get some reps in he NBDL too.

He regressed and (according to MemphisX) became a bit of a chemistry problem last year. When you consider that he's a streaky shooter who doesn't play good defense, and then look at the price tag... Ehhhhhh, I'll pass.

With Williams and Ward, they could have an all-racist backcourt.

Can I ignore it because we've already discussed Jason Williams at length in other threads? :p I like Jason Williams and I was plenty willing to take him in a trade in order to get Swift. It doesn't look like that's necessary now though. And, while he's got talent, he's also got a long, rich contract. Even though he could help us on the floor, I don't think he brings enough to justify the space he'd take up in the payroll. I'd be happy to have him, but I'd rather look elsewhere first.

    umm..yao was drafted #1 !!!

but i still think jay will is a gamble considering that vicious accident that took him out of the league a few years back..i think he was in a motorcycle? if it was t.j ford..then i would be OK with it..since he got hurt in-game..so we at least know the extent of the damage..i'd still rather hav d. stoudemire

I think you pretty much said it. If Damon is willing to sign for the LLE, there's no point trying to get a marginally better point guard that costs much, much more.

The great thing about the Rockets now is we can actually get some of those bargain free agents willing to take a paycut to play with a winner.

jason williams is too expensive and a horid defender. i'll pass.
jay williams wasn't going to be very good to begin with before the wreck because he's the furthest thing from a PG you can find. jay is a very low % scorer with little passing and distributing skills. i'll pass.

Last year the mantra was for 36 year old 2s to demand 15M/yr contract extensions and whine about not being able to feed their families. This year it's we can sign Shaq for the LLE. I love that the Nets got SAR for TE/MLE money and the Rox get SS for MLE but their are more greedy MoFo's in the NBA than choir boys. Lets lighten up on the we can sign very talented players for chump change.
