I hope John Goodman is paying attention. He's too good an actor to go early.

I think he already lost a bunch of weight a while back. Ten years ago I'd have been worried. He seems more self aware and humble than others.

I was standing in line to get a double Cuba Libre during the intermission of Kinky Boots on Broadway, and was behind a guy who's friend walked up to him and said, "I just heard that James Gandolfini dropped dead of a heart attack." The fellow's jaw dropped, and he said, "You're kidding!" So did I. Shocking news, and to the one or two people who made a joke about it, grow the **** up, OK? There's nothing in this news the least bit funny.

Damn. Sad. The Sopranos is still the best TV series I've ever seen, and he was amazing in it.

But, he was a huge guy. So it's only somewhat surprising.

He may have suffered from sleep apnea.

That was my thought to when started the Sopranos he was only in his mid30's playing, very believably, a character at least 10 years older.

A great actor and my sympathy to his friends and family.

Gone too soon. The last performance I saw him in was playing CIA director Leon Panetta in Zero Dark Thirty. I can't imagine anyone else playing that part.

    Gonna miss the guy.

What are you, a girl man? Not like there's that many "gangster shows" to turn down. In fact, I can only think of two, Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire.

Had a chance to meet him through the USO...........it's like a friend died. The most honest and real person I ever got to meet in Iraq. Took time to have a conversation with all of us.........a sad day. A real person left us today...............

Sad to hear this news. He was one of a kind. Would be kind of funny if, when he went, God made him see all black at first and then, after several seconds, removed it so he could see the pearly gates while saying "Just kidding".

Wow, he was my age when he finished with "The Sopranos". The extra weight makes a difference.

I would have pegged him as older than 51 now, but mainly it's just sad to see him go. We'll always have Tony Soprano I guess, one of TV's more recent indelible characters.

I just saw this on Reddit. I have no idea how credible this is, but it doesn't seem like the type of thing someone would make up. This is one of his last good deeds:

The guy's from my area, and the Sopranos are filmed throughout NJ, so it's been a pretty big deal here. RIP. I'd like to start to see some of his work; anyone know where I can watch the Sopranos? I don't have HBO.
