The guy's an outcast at Indy - playing behind Fred Jones. He knows how to play point. We need someone who can play point. Trade Mooch + second round pick + money consideration + whateva = Jamaal Tinsley Surely someone worth picking up.
I would even throw in Big Amaechi and considering his contract expires in 2004 not a bad deal. That would leave room for Braggs to come back, or Eddie G...
I was thinking about that today...but Tinsley has such a cheap contract that what you suggested is not possible. Basically, we could not trade Mooch for him (and Indiana would be crazy to do it). We could only use, e.g., a draft pick and somehow a little part of our exception (don't know if that would be possible and which implications it would have for the rest of the exception), or trade a player with a very very cheap contract for him. Even Griffin's contract is too expensive to trade him for Tinsley. The only other thing would be if they had another player with a more expensive contract they wanted to get rid of. I'm still hoping for Artest to have a serious run-in with Carlisle, but it doesn't look like that right now, and then they could get a lot more for Artest than what we would have to offer.
amazing how in the summer I was nearly the only one and egn that wanted to trade cat for artest, and everyone jumped down my throat. Now artest is a bonefide allstar, and everyone here wants cat traded. I saw it coming,to bad no one listened. I also was hoping we could have traded steve for Oneil because Oneil was upset with Thomas firing, and wanted out,but rockets didnt care. Imagine how good indy would be if they had Ming, that would be like us with Artest,Oneil,Ming.
CD is on record saying that he likes J.O'Neil but the Rockets could not offer him a big contract. Although we heard rumors of Artest being traded for Brent Barry it was quite obvious that Indy wanted to see him play in a more disciplined manner. Now that he is performing better they are probably happy to have him on their team.
There were a few of us who wanted Artest as a Rocket, in a bad way, me among them. Notice how Artest was drafted #16 in the same draft that we took Steve at #2. Artest got less than a max extension and he's at least as valuable to his team as Steve is to ours. This all might shake out with Cat and somebody being traded for a small forward of some sort. Certainly Artest is out of our reach now, what with the Pacers at 12-2.
First of all, I wouldn't think twice about trading Mobley for Artest even with his issues, second of all please stop telling us about your previous post history. Its getting really tired.
Actually, after I saw her signature, it reminded me to put her on ignore, but people don't listen to her signature, so it doesn't work...
Maybe somebody would take a chance on EG. Say EG and Wilks for Tinsley? Mooch could become our 3rd PG if his play is poor
Oh, right. I was nearly the only one that wanted to trade EG for Zach Randolph in the early summer, and that was before Randolph blowing up this season, well, nobody listened. I believe I was also nearly the first one in suggesting we sign a backup veteran PG way early in the season, which I still think we should do. I believe that last season I also called to trade SF and Cat to Boston for Paul Pierce, but Boston prob. won't bite. I also believe I am the first one in suggesting Rox need to do a better job in drafting late 1st round and 2nd round players using quantitative analysis tools, just like the Spurs did with regard to Parker or maybe Ginobilli. We have to introduce scientific tools in our draft and CONTRACT analysis. We can't keep drafting busts and signing players into bad contracts (Moochie, M. T, Cato)
There is no link. An article recently on MSNBC talked about a guy who worked for Spurs. He developed some methodology to evaluate drafts, basically statistical analysis. Popovich was really impressed with him and decided to promote him. Of course, nobody will give you their method for free. You got to develop your own model. But to start with, you need the data, basically all players who declared for draft, those who got drafted, their draft position, their bio-stats, their year-1, year-2, year-3 ... performance since 1980s. Then you find a statistical model to fit, then to predict. For contract, you have to do the same analysis to predict their future performance. Basically, how much a player is worth depends on his FUTURE performance, of course past performance can help predict future performance as you got to have some persistence to predict. If it is just a random walk, you can't predict. What you can also do is to predict a player's performance variance or consistency. This can help you evaluate how stable a player's performance is going to be. Lastly, there are also ways to predict a players' tendency to get injuried, maybe with categorical data analysis. For example, in MoT's case, since he signed his long term contract, how often did he get injuried??? A LOT!!! If you apply some scientific tools, you might be able to predict MoT's tendency to get injuried with some probability, thus reduce your contract risk. Hahah, to think about it, the Nets' signing of Mourning with guaranteed contract is one of the worst signings.
I posted the link to the MSNBC article some days ago. If you could find a way to search, you should be able to find it.
