Here is what i think JVG play his players. First JVG is like to stick with what he knows and proven to work. He is not a experimental type of coach who like to try new things and mix things up. If you want to get minuates with JVG as a coach, you need to demonstrate that you understand the defense and you play the way JVG want you to play. Therefore, span, jake, wells, synder rarely see any minuates comparing to what we think they should have. season is they are either starting to understand a bit of the defense run by JVG or they are still trying to find that magic. JVG doesn't development new players thru playing NBA games, he believes that starts with coaching the D, watching tapes, and practice in gym.
This is true, but it is on offense that the big men would be hampered, the fact that team's can doulbe team a big man off the ball is ridiculous. If Yao played in the 90s he would be averaging 30+ ppg.... I don't mind the no hand check rules that have been implemented but some of the zone rules I can't stand. Now, cue someone coming in and saying " I said to play a zone"....yes....I don't like the rule, but if it is legal...use it. See...consistent. DD
S.O.S to Yao Ming, Please return soon! I'll be the first to say that I get really aggrevated when this team loses, but I understand and except this team's weaknesses. I know health has been an issue for this team, yet they've won the majority of their games. Depth has been an issue, yet they've won. The age of our role player's both young and old have been issue's, yet they've won. All of these things are finally catching up with this team, but at the completely wrong time. This is when we're supposed to be making a push for homecourt, but we're faltering to lesser teams, and not approaching games with the kind of intensity you should have in the second half of the season. I'm not sure if you can 'blame' JVG, but I think he now knows he made a mistake not experimenting more with his rotation. I just want Yao back and hope he's healthy to see what this team can really do. Are the basketball god's so cruel that they'll never let us see a healthy T-Mac/Yao together for one full season/playoff's? The humanity! Just one question: What ever happened to that Luther Head we saw after McGrady went down the first time? He was dribble penetrating, shooting midrange jumpers, taking it to the hole. He was that player we need now. It just looks like he's lost that swagger/confidence. I think part of it might be his expected role as primary backup pg. Any thoughts as to where that Luther went?
he just do not trust them rookies, that's it. he wants his team be a 8 guys stable one, 5 on the pitch and 3 on the rotation.
I'm not ranting on JVG this year or I am keeping it to a minimum but my ideals are simple If we lose in the 1st round of the playoffs HE SHOULD BE FIRED beyond that . . .I'm in wait an see mode I think we have championship talent and it comes down to coaching now Rocket River
Haha I told you guys well I want to thank clutch for gettng me some minutes thanks guy, I'll try to make up to you and lets go Rockets!
Perhaps the basketball gods got together and said something like, "We cannot allow healthy McGrady and dominant Yao to be on court together for any extended period of time, for if we do, then we will have unleashed the greatest terror in the history of the game. This simply would not be a moral act towards the rest of the NBA."
Perhaps Azubuike would be a better option than Head right now in certain matchups? what did JVG say about him? "He just isn't ready yet." What did he say about Spanoulis? "He just isn't ready yet."
All anyone has to do is say the Mavs gave Nelson every chance to win and he could not. They bring in AJ and maybe they get it done now. Just as easily as you can say it is all defense anyone else can say it was just the coach. You know Dallas is not suddenly an easily stoppable, boring, predictable team offensively just because they got a coach who asked them to play some D.
Everyone talks about how the fans and experts were all wrong about what the Rockets would do without Yao Ming, and they were. But they weren't crazy. You had Tracy McGrady out with a seemingly chronic back injury, his return totally up in the air and his game looking weak by T-Mac's standards. After that you have a bench full of players who can't get their own shot and not a single playmaker among them who can get them open shots. T-Mac's resurgence and Jeff Van Gundy's defensive game plan are the two reasons the Rockets have made noise with Yao out. Yes, Battier, Juwan and Deke have stepped up, but without BOTH T-Mac and the great team defense the team is seeking an 8th seed right now. JVG deserves a lot of credit. Yeah, he can be annoying at times (stubbornness) and, in my opinion, he is an offensively-challenged coach ... I think he merely depends on the offensive skills of his players and plugs them in to what he's doing (such as making Rafer a spot-shooter off double teams), but I would much rather get the players that are the right fit for what he's doing than get rid of JVG. If you let him go, you will probably get a coach with a better offensive scheme, but you won't get this team to play the same kind of defense... and in my opinion, that's the hard part.
The Bulls won the year after the let Collins go and brought in Jackson. Jordan always maintained Collins was a great coach even a friend. He also kindly stated it was bringing in Phil that got them over the hump. Someone else mentioned Dallas....... Nelson now to AJ I recall JVG saying something like, "I learned more from Don Nelson than any other coach, I learned so much from him in just one year. Most of what I know about offense I learned from him." Then there was Phil replacing Harris in LA. Yao calls Harris "a really great coach." Think about it.
2 yrs ago you could've...but could u have made this thread around the all star break time when we were on a roll or are u making this thread right now because we lost 3 "easy" games and ur just a bandwagon fan? I think the latter fits u best.
how many games have we seen a healthy T-Mac and a healthy Yao together? Save it for when it counts. If Yao comes back full strength and Mac stays aggressive and healthy, then we'll see
A very salient point.....sometimes a new direction is what the players need whether they know it or not. DD
