so... I saw see that the in-demand songs are currently priced at 99 cents, and will be raised to $1.29. How much do "most songs" cost on itunes? (the ones that will become 69 cents) ?
I am curious about all of us who have bought iTunes song with DRM. Will there be any pathway for our previous purchases to DRM free land?
Upgrading to a DRM-free iTunes library will cost you Users of iTunes can now upgrade their music libraries with a click of a button. For an additional 30 cents per song, a user can receive a DRM-free version of their existing tracks at a 256-kbps bit rate. The iTunes files will still be in Apple's preferred AAC format, not the more widely supported MP3.
Yup. It's been that way for awhile. Just now there are (obviously) more DRM free songs. This is the main reason I bought using amazon. No drm. Now that iTunes is the same way I will be more inclined to buy from them as well.
Anyone know when this takes effect? I was thinking of shopping for more music but now I want to put that off until they reduce the price.
If I already have some songs that are DRM, why would I need to have a non-DRM version as well? I'm not really clear on that. I've had various issues or problems with Itunes associated with their DRM stuff, but I was never sure of any of the specifics behind it.
IIRC 8 million songs are now available. The full 10 million songs from iTunes catalog will be available by end of the quarter, beginning of April.
I have some albeit limited concerns that 10 years from now the DRM songs will stop being payable. Didn't yahoo's DRM music store go bust? Didn't MS's DRM music store (pre-Zune) also go bust? Also if you owned the nonDRM version of your iTunes songs, you would not be limited in which personal music players you could use. I suspect that shortly Apple will have to be more price competitve with their iPods.
