How do I get itunes to just put certain cds onto an ipod? My mom got an ipod for christmas, wanted to help her out by putting the cds she wanted onto the ipod. Well in itunes I already have a bunch of songs in my library that I put on my ipod. How do I make it so itunes just puts cds or songs I select onto her ipod. I dont think she wants a bunch of my stuff on hers. Thanks.
You have to first copy the cd's into your itunes library. Put the cd in. When it shows up in itunes, select the songs (hold shift and you can highlight them all at the same time), right click and select 'convert to .aac' or 'convert to .mp3', depending on what you have set in your options. Let itunes do its thing. Do this for each cd until all of the songs you want are in your itunes library. Set your itunes/ipod to manual update (as opposed to automatic update). Then, you can select specific songs to be put on the ipod. Also, I'm not 100% sure, but I believe that if you already have an ipod sync'd up to your itunes, you cannot sync a second ipod unless you keep it on manual update at all times.
found this... Tip 1: Two iPods -- one PC Let's say you have one computer and two iPods. It's easy enough to synchronise both iPods with just one computer, as long as both iPod users are happy accessing the same music library or the same set of playlists. But that can become hard to manage, especially if you're manually updating the iPod or adding new music that you'd like to keep separate. In most cases, the easiest way to keep discrete libraries for syncing both iPods is to create a separate user account for each person who uses an iPod with the computer. The Insider Secrets video shows the steps for doing this using Mac OS X; here's how to create a separate user and share music under Windows XP. First, click Start > Control Panel > User Accounts (Start > Settings > Control Panel if you use the Classic view). Click 'Create a new account' and follow the instructions. Windows XP kindly provides a shared folder that already includes a directory called Shared Music (find it under C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents). The easiest thing to do is to copy all the music on your computer into this folder so that all users can access it. Then the lucky owner of the new iPod can pick and choose what music to include in his or her iTunes Library. From the new account, in iTunes, click File > Add Folder To Library, and copy over whatever music you want (make sure to check the box next to 'Copy files to iTunes music folder' when adding to library, under Advanced in the Preferences dialogue box, so that iTunes doesn't consolidate the files for the music library). Unrelated IPOD question. If I get a new computer, and I already move songs from current ITUNES library on this computer, and on my wife's computer, will I have deauthorize this computer in order to authorize my new one? Is there a reason why I shouldn't do it? Can I unauthorize the new one and re-authorize this one later if I wanted?
I saw where The Beatles and Apple finally ended their copyright fight. It won't be long until their songs appear on iTunes now I bet.
This thread should be a sticky... I was putting tunes onto my girlfriends iPod Shuffle over the weekend and I couldn't figure out how to change it to where iTunes does it automatically like it does for my Nano. After plugging in the Shuffle, I had to click and drag each tune over to the little 'shuffle' icon. Should the Shuffle work like the Nano or is this the only way to update the Shuffle? Where do you go to change the update preference from 'manual' to 'automatic'?
Not to hijack this thread, but I have an itunes problem as well - I have a lot of older MP3 files which always worked fine, but in the newest itunes version a lot of them seem to be cut off after a certain time.
Edit... preferences? Ipod tab? EDIT: You should be able to see this tab ONLY when any iPod is connected and iTunes has recognized it. It won't be there if you have the preferences dialog box and you connect the Shuffle, Nano, or any other iPod model during. Can other MP3 player software finish the song? Meaning, do you get that song cut off in those players? If so, you might want to consider converting to a lower bitrate.
What's up with my Ipod? I updated the latest software for it, and it works fine while docked at my computer. But it won't work in the car, or with headphones. The song will come up, and it will say it is playing but no audio happens, and the song is stuck at 00:00 seconds. I can even pause, and fast forward, but it doesn't seem to help. I thought I would let the battery use up in this mode, and then recharge it, but it must somehow be in energy saver mode when doing this, because after a full day like that, the batter was just half way down. Has anyone else had this problem, or do they have any suggestions?
FranchiseBlade Do you use Anapod from Red Chair software? I used to use it a long time ago and then quit using it. I then recently tried it again and transferred MP3 songs using it instead of iTunes. Whenever one of those songs would come up, it would behave the exact same way you described. I removed those songs and, using iTunes, "re"transferred them to my iPod and all works well.
Darn, I wish I was using that, and could do that. I've used nothing but itunes. I'll be kind of bummed if I have to reload everything. All my songs are on 3 different computers at this time. It would be a pain to reload them all, and lose all my different playlists. I also don't want to try that yet, as I don't know that it will even work for sure. I saw one other post that mentioned this on a different board, but nobody really responded to it.
Does this happen to every single song? If not, open your iPod under iTunes and see if all of the songs that this happens with are of the same "kind", where "kind" is: AAC audio file Protected AAC audio file MPEG Audio file If "kind" doesn't show on your title bar, right click and add it as a column. When I used the Anapod software, any "MPEG Audio file" that I transferred exhibited the behavior that yours is showing. All the other songs work O.K. It may NOT have been the Anapod software that hosed things up, it just so happened that after I removed those transferred with Anapod and reloaded them via iTunes, the problem went away. It could have been some weird iTunes issue that fixed itself.
Thanks for being so patient. I just checked, and tried a different song from each format, and they all freeze up unless the ipod is docked to the computer and playing that way.
