I'm trying to consolidate all my music on an external drive to my laptop, so as not to take up all my memory. I already have about 500 songs from CDs I uploaded on my external drive.

    1. Is there a way to put all my music from ITunes (purchased, already uploaded CDs) onto this external drive? I'd love to have everything in one place, especially for backup purposes.

    2. Also, what is the best way to rip CDs and put them on my external drive. I didn't care for Media Monkey.

Thanks in advance for everyone's help!

First of all, the space that music takes up on your laptop is not "memory", it's hard drive space. Many people make an assumption that hard drive space equals memory, while this is not the case.

In regards to the iTunes problem, some music is your own, and other is purchased, you say? Let's talk about the music you purchased FIRST.

You must authorize separate computers to play your purchased music. Here are steps to do so: http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/move/ (this is also a Frequently Asked Questions manual on how to move your music).

With iTunes, you can move music you own and ripped as MP3 or AAC to another hard drive if they're not rights-protected easily by dragging and dropping the top-most folder in your hard drive that contains the music.

Apple has your answers, though. Read the FAQ. Good luck, sir!
