http://www.ucpress.edu/books/pages/8373.html Word to the wise: First chapter is online in PDF. If you like it enough to want the rest, Barnes&Noble.com, Amazon, etc., have it at 50% off. Anybody who wants to discuss it -- pro, con, or whatever -- I've opened a forum at: http://bbs.slate.msn.com/?id=3936&tp=framegame. Hope to see you there!
damn, Will...take some liberties and put this in the Hangout that existed when you were writing this. congrats.
from the link: "Will Saletan is a great political journalist with a strong moral sense. He also has an unusually shrewd understanding of what happens when ethics and values meet elections and the legislative process. So partisans on every side of the abortion debate--Saletan shows convincingly there are more than two--will be challenged by his book, at times upset, and always enlightened. Based on exceptional reporting and fiercely independent analysis, Bearing Right is eloquent, important, and surprising." --E.J. Dionne, Jr., syndicated columnist and author of Why Americans Hate Politics I don't like Krauthammer, but Dionne is top drawer.
Congrats, Will. All the praise couldn't directed at a more worthy guy. So, uh, when's your first appearance on the Daily Show?
Wow !!! Way to go.....you have accomplished a major life goal.....one more copy will be sold to me. CONGRATS ! DD
Congrats Will. You wrote a book that people will actually read. My first book will be read by about ten people.
Congratsulations on the book. Can someone give us a a brief paragraph or two summarizing the book? Don't have the time or inclination to read a whole book on the issue.
LOL! Congrats Will. I remember the last time I was published was a Dear Santa Claus letter back in 3rd grade. I did write a 25 page book about my classmates and me going to another planet in 5th grade, but somehow no publishing house decided to pick that up. Congrats again, as this is a sweet honor even for someone who's already appeared in print several times.
Thanks, everybody. I feel like you're all family, and I just wanted to share the news with you. Kam/glynch -- you can download the first chapter from the URL at the top of this thread, then decide whether you like it enough to want more or not. Juan, I'm fielding questions and flak about the book on the Frame Game fray at Slate every day (URL also at the top of this thread). I don't want to add that burden to Clutch's server. Jeff, no call from the Daily Show yet -- I'm holding out for Leno (not!). Rimbaud, don't sell yourself short. I'm planning to pick up a copy of your treatise on migration habits of the Aleutian horned toad the minute it comes off the press.
