I wish I could tell you guys how frustrated I am about this story, but I can't. Maybe later...

I'll just say I got this yesterday and was told it was for Glen Rice and his fat contract. Keep in mind Scott Layden runs the show in New York, and he drafted Shandon in Utah in 1996.

Is this in discussion, or close to a done deal?

i really dont see why the rockets would do that.

a team with defensive problems signing and trading possibly their best defensive player. for an older, no defense playing, huge contract eating, washed up shooter. we already have walt williams.

i dont understand how, the rockets can have so much cap room before the offseason, not even sign hakeem, and yet now we can blow it on rice, and at the same time we cant afford marc jackson?

im going to go to sleep.

    Rice?

That is the most depressing Rockets news I have heard in a long time. I'm cool with Olajuwon leaving, but aquiring Glen Rice and his big mouth wife? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

What I was told yesterday and today is "close to a done deal". Very close. I would think other "throw-in" players would have to be involved.

It makes no sense, the Rockets acquiring another small forward (much less a fat contract like Rice's), I know. But that's what I was told.

I hope if it is for Rice were going to move him to somewhere like Denver or Chicago. I don't see the logic of bringing him on board

okay this is freaking stupid. Rice makes no sense at all, not with that contract. Rockets biggest problem is at CENTER CENTER.

Id rather take a chance on Marc Jackson or somehow aquire White even though i dont like him rather than get rice.

    crap, whatever.

I sure hope its not Rice. That makes no sense. He can not play center and he reminds me of Walt Williams He is an old overpaid ball hog with limited defensive ability. Please let it be someone else!

Glen Rice, once a Rocket, could become a valuable trade commodity.

Well, I guess Glen Rice will be a great spot up shooter to have in the dump-it-down to Kelvin Cato offense.

 If you think about it, this maybe some thing where we can trade Rice to some other team. Could be a 3 team trade thing. I just cant see CD gettin that lazy ass. But then again, they be just really high on TMo, Griffin, and Langhi. We just have to wait and see

The Rockets did want Rice for Pippen over the deal the Blazers put on the table, but the Lakers nixed that deal, not vice versa, so I can see how they still like the guy.

The only way I do this deal, is if another trade is already lined up for Rice ie: to Denver for LaFrentz. Then again, the Rockets could really actually like the guy, and truly want him on the team.

I don't think anyone can question the fact that we're a better team with him than without him, but given his age and contract, I'd pass.

I also have this odd feeling that Collier would somehow be involved if this trade went down, considering the lack of true centers on the Knicks roster aka none, leaving us even smaller up front.

If Glen Rice is a valuable trade commodity, why has no other team been rumored to have an interest? Rice sux. And that's the last word on him.

Thank God. It's about time we unloaded our glut of defensive specialists to fill our gaping hole at small forward and put another scorer on the floor. Getting a cap-friendly contract and young legs for the future makes it that much sweeter.

    Hemlock, anyone?

I had already expressed my fears in another thread about getting Rice for Anderson. This would be very bad for us for the reasons that have already mentioned in this thread. The only reason why the Rockets would even consider getting Rice would be as a relplacement for Walt Williams when he becomes a free agent next year. I still think it would be a very bad move for us becuase of his age and huge contract.

I think that Cato is more of a tradeable commodity than Rice because at least he has somewhat of an upside.

Next to Vin Baker and Shawn Kemp, Rice's 3 yr $30 MIL remaining contract for a washed up scrub makes him possibly the least tradeable guy in the NBA.

This trade makes zero sense. How can the Rockets justify not reupping Hakeem and then absorbing a $10 MIL a year scrub like Rice when they are loaded at SF?
