I ordered information on work from home jobs. And they sent me some info saying they are a business that will pay me $2 per envelope I fill with circulars and send back to them. They pay for the shipping, send me supplies and everything. It sounds VERY convincing. Do you think its real? The company is Direct Cards.
OMG!!! I just found this http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/ripoff113793.htm I'm glad I researched it before sending my $46.
Looney, you're dangerous, dude. What made you think that it could even remotely not be a fraud? If I got a job where I could get $2 for every envelope I licked and stuffed, I'd quit my current job and lose use of my tongue.
I remember when I was a teenager and I got suckered by this whole "2 dollars per envelop" scheme. I didn't get conned into sending 46 bucks though. It was just 2 bucks since that's the whole pyramid scheme that they speak of. I'm glad you didn't get roped in LT, but you got to be more cynical about "money for (practically) nothing" schemes like this.
Wouldn't have the same humorous imagery. Of course now that you mentioned "sponge" I fully expect a Seinfeld fan to post in this thread...
LooneyTune: I've got some kickass, brandname speakers I have to get rid of that are really cheap. Step on over to the back of my white van and I'll show you....
Minus the white van part, I have been approached at least 10 times in the last 4 or 5 years to buy speakers from the back of an SUV. Always two young guys driving who say that they mistakenly got an extra set and they wanna sell them before their boss finds out. Yeah, ok. I usually give a quick "not interested" and drive off.
I can't even remember how many times someone in a white van has come up and run that same old scam ~ that or try to sell some sort of cheap art.
I get people coming up to me while I'm pumping gas (particularly the Exxon on I-45 and N. Main) wanting to sell me steaks from the back of a freezer truck. It's happened to me 3 times at the same gas station. WTF??
Now you gotta pump gas while looking over your shoulder nervously for the "steak man". What has the world come to?
Actually, one time it was the "steak woman". She was kind of cute, too. I told her I would buy a steak from her if, afterwards, she would let me put my meat in her mouth.
I had a guy try to sell me cologne out of the back of his Dodge Neon that was "Just like the real thing." What is these people's problem?
2 of my employees here got scammed by the same person on different days. He comes in and says he orders a drink does his normal talking to the bartender. Eventually the convo gets into where he works. He says Best Buy or some other chain store like that. Then he talks about how he can get them things at discount if they want. The girls think that wow this guy is nice becuase im a girl and how sweet it is to get things for cheap since i am a girl and can use my looks. Well i just hope they had used their brains at this point. But you know how guys are when it comes to girls, they will try to hook them up with anything to sleep with them even if the girl won't do anything she will fall for it thinking she is suckering him. Anyways...he tells them for 50 bucks that he can get a digital camera or whatever they want as soon as the truck comes in and he can get it out of inventory. He promises them to come back the next day after work and bring them their goods. Well not only does he ask for the 50 bucks up front to get the stuff for them, the girls actually had the nerve to give it to him. It happened to one girl here. Then a month later boom another one gets hit.... I can't phathom the thought of giving someone you just met while working $50 and not expect to get scammed lol.... Anyways thought i would share how easy it is sometimes. All you do is go in and sweet talk with a girl and say "oh i would do this for you" they think it's a nice gesture by a guy..but to their amazment...boom your SCAMMED
Forget about going to a bar and getting a drink if you have had a tough day. Just find a thread started by Looney Tune and your day automatically gets better! I mean not only has he given us this thread but other such BBS classics as "Bought a Lemon?" and "Got Weirdo Neighbors, What Do I Do?"
