the best dunking PG ever???...I know dunking isn't that important, but what other PG's do u guys think threw down as hard as Francis does???...i can't think of any as of now ------------------
KJ used to. I also remember Robert Pack throw down some nasties with Portland. But honestly, I think the best current dunking PG would have to be Stevie. ------------------ There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."
Doc Rivers used to throw down with the best of them if you left the lane open. He was fun to watch. Also, when Kevin Johnson dunked on Hakeem, I could not believe what I saw. KJ had some SERIOUS hops. Of course, Hakeem was looking the other way, and would have stuff KJ's little arse if he saw him coming, but that is beside the point. To answer your question, I can't remember another point guard that could finish like Steve. If Steve ever develops a solid mid-range game to compliment his dunks and jump shots, he has a chance to be the best point guard in the league (once Payton slows down). ------------------
Spud Webb was a nasty dunker. Serious hops from a guy 5'7". Good call on Pack. Had forgotten he even played in Portland. But KJ wasn't a big dunker - he was more a layup guy (or, more often than not, looked to dish when he got into the lane). That's why that filthy dunk on Dream in the playoffs was such a shocker. ------------------
I seem to remember a certain ex-Rocket pg being a pretty nasty dunker in his younger days. Kenny Smith ------------------
Kevin Johnson had a FEW more dunks on big men than Dream and wasent known as a "layup guy"until later in his career. In the league now: Baron Davis Darrell Armstrong(good pick HOOP-T) Antonio Daniels Keyon Dooling(just wait till u see this guy) Steve is the man!!! ------------------
Anybody remember the Louisville teams of the late 70's and early 80's? Former, ick, Utah Jazz guard Darrell Griffith? Better known as Dr. Dunkenstein? The man had a 48 inch vertical (compared to Steve's 43 inch). He was 6'4" and dynamite in his legs. It was no fluke he got that name... ------------------ Falk that Mo Fo!!!
Spud Webb, hands down. Geeez, could that little guy get up or what!? Although he really didn't dunk on anybody(which makes Steve more spectacular), for a 5'7" guy he could really get up there. ------------------ www.rocketzone.web.com
Sputnick all the way , 5 foot 6 at the time in 1986 he dunked all over Nique in his prime and MJ so he won because nobody was ready for him , Doc Rivers said Spud had never dunked before so nobody knew he could do it . ------------------ This signature space for rent call 555 ...
Yeah most of us remember Pac-Man throwing down dunks over Shawn Kemp in 1994 with the Nuggets ------------------ This signature space for rent call 555 ...
Let's leave dunk contests out of it....we are speaking of strictly game dunks. Hell, I can dunk with no one near me. Sure, Spud could get up for a little gnat, but he never dunked on anyone. Pack and KJ both had some pretty nasty dunks on other players. What about Darrell Armstrong?? Man, has he put some dunks on some big guys. ------------------ There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."
I agree...Baron, Darrell, and Keyon got some nice hops, but "Speedy" Claxton has got ups too...and being only 5'10", his dunks look extra nice, but none of these guys mentioned in this thread can hang w/ Stevie Boy!!! ------------------
You should probably discount Antonio Daniels, seeing as he does the same dunk over and over and over... Man, use two hands for once...or even a layup... ------------------ Ugh, Another Rockets off-season....I'm gonna need a keg of Pepto-Bismol.
I know he's not a point guard anymore, but Penny Hardaway threw down some fairly nasty stank back in the day. ------------------ Sometimes I think I'd be better off dead. No, wait, not me...you.
Kobe plays some point. But if you are talking strictly point, then I would have to go with Francis of course. Spudd could dunk, but not on someone. Francis can do it all ------------------ Fun Police Says: 1. Stupid threads are not FUN! 2. Spelling, grammar, punctuation and sentence structure are not FUN! 3. Stupid BBS names are not FUN! 4. K.J. hands down. Anyone that nuts on Dream (and yes, Hakeem was looking and attempting to block the shot) gets major props from me. ------------------
Hakeem was not looking. Dream just turned around and got posterized. Nothing to take away from KJ though; that was one of the best dunks of all time. ------------------ Fun Police Says: 1. If the Goat hadn't had so many problems then he probably would've been remembered as one of the great dunkers of all time!! ------------------
I remember Griffith D0D. Man could he sky. Anybody remember David Thompson? Or John Williamson? or Micheal Ray Richardson? or George Gervin? ------------------ In order to be a success in life, you need 2 things: 1. Don't tell everything you know.
man if i remember it right thompson went to NC State and he could fly, like a 44 inch vert or so ------------------
