    This is nothing new, I've seen things like this in Mexico for years.

    Common sense is the only way to tavel.

    was there a few years ago.. i think you are more at risk getting hit in the head by a beer bottle from drunk college kids than get in trouble with the corrupt cops or the drug cartel

    Its basically what a lot of people in mexico survive off of that are too poor to afford real food.

    Cancun is fine

    Interior Mexico and especially the border areas (Juarez, N Laredo, Matamoros) are not.

    I drove from Zacatecas to Aguascalientes about a year and a half ago and didn't feel very safe. I passed through one security checkpoint and fortunately it was legit Mexican troops. But when I stopped and went into a store, I made my wife stay in the car (tinted windows) to avoid being seen. Muchos malos around there.
