These guys are unbelievable. They want to punish the Devil Rays for staying with their families during a hurricane. Does anyone else think this really makes them look like asses. I am not a Yankee fan but I am also not a typical Yankee hater. I just think that you have to put some things before baseball and one of those is family. D-Rays 3B Aubrey Huff still hasn't made it to NYC. His house flooded and despite offers from police to take him to the airport he chose to stay with his family. Selig is saying that there definitely will be no forfeit but the Yankees are heartless to even be asking for one.

Truly ridiculous...I am so glad that this story got out (not that it wouldn't)...i cant believe that they would have the balls to ask for a forfeit given all that is going on in Florida.

I have always seen quotes and references to Randy Levine, their President but have never seen him like "Big Stein" and Cashman. After seeing him last night, he fits right in with that arrogant bunch.

I think the pressure of the pennant race is starting to get to them.;)

Yes, its much better to punish the Yankees because the D-Rays didn't want to leave Florida. It isn't as if their families were in deadly peril. They managed (outside of Huff) to get to Yankee Stadium, just 6 or 7 hours late. The could have all left on Saturday, taken their families along, and played in the double header. If they don't bother to show up for the game, then they should forfeit. If they want to put their personal reasons ahead of baseball, that is fine, but they should really put them ahead of baseball and just accept the forfeit.

How is it punishing the Yankees by making them play the game?

you know if they end up getting the forfieted wins and the red soxs don't make it becuase of 1 game or so, they are going to look at it as a curse etc etc. When in actuallity it is the arrogance of the Yankees not giving a damn about anyone but themselves and trying to for a forfiet from them..

    Sad.

Major League Baseball should've made the Yankees forfeit any missed or delayed games in the wake of September 11th rather than delaying games for everybody.

A bit off topic, but the NFL demanded that the Dolphins go ahead with their game in new Orleans on friday night over the objections of the players and coaches.

yup all they did was move the game ahead 30 minutes to get it started.

If they league goes and sides with the yankees it is going to cause a big rift in baseball i think....just like in most businesses and contracts, acts of god, nature etc can exclude these contracts becuase they are out of our hands.

Do they really think that Tampa Bay is trying to get out of the game with them?

I have read several times that Bud Seelig is not going to make the Devil Rays forfeit.

Certainly. Outside of not having the ability to make it to a game (all planes grounded) they should either play the games or forfeit. If you want to stay at home with your family, that is fine, and I can certainly respect that decision. Making that choice should have the consequence of forfeiting the game. On Sept. 11, many people at my school thought classes should be canceled so they could go home and watch news coverage. Most professors said that you certainly have the option of not coming to class, but they are going to have the class without you, and you will just miss out on whatever happens that day. People have free will, but they should also accept the consequences of their actions. The D-rays are having their cake and eating it too.
