Apple was unable to do anything for me. They said I was several updates behind to cause my phone to boot into recovery mode after being turned off. I guess I learned a lesson in all this. It will be interesting to see what I get back from my camera roll when I restore later at home from my last back-up. Hopefully, a lot of that camera roll stuff will still be there. I'm just not sure until I do it later today.
That sucks man. Hopefully it will all be there. That's a really stupid reason as to why it went into restore mode. Just because you didn't keep up with all the updates? That's r****ded. Good luck
Sorry to hear that. Always create back-ups. Here is something you can do to prepare yourself. Always back up photos, and music on your machine. Contacts are the easiest to backup, but most people on iPhones don't realize they can take advantage of Gmail the same exact way Android does (As in, it will automatically sync your contacts) Go to settings, mail contacts and calendars, add account Setup an account as Microsoft Exchange enter your gmail address, username (gmail address, password (gmail password) Leave the domain blank, and the server will be "m.google.com" After it is complete, be sure to select "mail, contacts, and calendars", and it will automatically sync all of your contacts back and forth with Gmail.
Your gmail will also come alot faster than if you were to setup as a "Gmail" and not "Microsoft Exchange" as it uses activesync.
People say Apple products can't get viruses. Something like the amount of users are so small compared to Microsoft that it would be pointless to make viruses for them. Well, it looks like they can. Where do they come from? The App store. When you try to jailbreak, or tether the phone to use your phone's internet on your laptop you are messing with Apple's ToS. You may get it to work for a while as long as you don't update the phone. Still, the newer phones come updated right out of the box. You may get Cydia to work, but it is only a matter of time before you will want to reset your phone due to some annoying bug/glitch that keeps happening. And once it powers off your phone is now a brick. Just in time for that new iPhone that came out.
Just got done doing my restore. I totally lucked out and got all my dead dogs' pics and videos back. I lost some pics and data for 2011 but not much. My last back-up was 12/26/2010 and my last dog died on 11/02/2010. I'm so glad and thankful I didn't lose those memories. I got a little teary-eyed there when I saw they were still there. 2010 was an emotional rollercoaster for me. I just got too comfortable just having that stuff on my phone and not sync-ing. First thing I did was import all those pics and vids to my PC....and now I'm putting them on my iPad. I guess you could say I got lazy on my updates...as I was never in a hurry for them. I always tended to put that stuff off. I know better now obviously....especially knowing you can't boot the damn phone and get it to work if you fall behind on updates. I wish I would have known that ahead of time but no disclaimer mentioned it I'm aware of...unless it was in that 20 page (or whatever) agreement text noone reads when they update iTunes. lol. I'm a happy camper now.
I doubt it got bricked just because you hadn't updated. He may have meant that there was a bug that could cause that to happen that's been fixed in newer updates. I'm glad you got your stuff from the backup.
Yeah, I think they meant that that because the software wasn't up to date they had issues with getting it into recovery mode, not that that's what caused the crash. Either way I'm glad you got your stuff back Surf I know it meant a lot to you from previous threads. That's awesome.
