The price of the iPhone has nothing to do with Android. I have no need to attack Android. Just stating facts. Android is Google's way to push advertising. Period. The reason Android has been successful is basically laziness of the hardware manufacturers, sans Microsoft. They were caught with their pants down with iOS and didn't have an answer. Google had working on a phone OS to push advertising that was similar to Blackberry's, but when they saw the iPhone, they changed course. They bought Android and the rest is history. Android allows these companies to save money by not investing in their own OS. However, that makes you reliant on Google. The problem with Google is they are still an advertising company first, not a software or hardware company. There are inherent problems with that. That's why u see some disconnect between phone hardware and software in the Android universe. I actually expect Windows Phone 7 to be a better platform than Android because of Microsoft asserting control over the Hardware and how the Software is used on that platform (ala Apple). The lack of control will eventually hurt Android. You viruses popping up already for it. Android Marketplace is already having issues with apps stealing peoples info. Open Source sounds nice, unless you are trying to make money from it. LOL.
Slow down there cowboy. 1) I made the point about the iPad in response to an argument that Android is a phone OS that isn't designed for the tablet form factor. Don't get too excited trying to make a circular argument there, buddy. 2) "Fandroids". Did you come up with that all on your own? You deserve a pat on the back, I think. By the way, I don't own an Android device, and I'm actually known around these parts as a WebOS evangelist. And unlike you, I am not unwilling to acknowledge the virtues of other mobile OSes, such as Android and iOS. Except for BlackBerry OS. It sucks. Not the new QNX-based one they're putting on the PlayBook though. That one looks cool, even if it's a WebOS ripoff in several ways. But I digress. 3) "Focus on the specs and all that". See, the difference between us is that while you're a user who is content with the pretty colors of the iPad, I am an embedded systems engineer and technology enthusiast who is interested in what can be accomplished by pushing the limits of modern technology. 4) "Fragmentation!" Ahhh, the magic word. If I had a nickel for every time an Apple user said "fragmentation" in a conversation about Android...
You do know that the only "viruses" (which is actually spyware) for Android is that from apps from outside of the Android marketplace (usually Chinese app stores), right? iPhones are usually one of the first things hacked at the annual Pwn2Own competition (usually through the browser). The security on Android devices are strong (just like Google's Chrome browser). All Android applications are sandboxed from each other, helping to ensure that a buggy application cannot interfere with another app. All applications are required to declare the permissions they use so that the user is control. Do a little research before attempting to make up "facts."
Video games that you want to play? Apple is deciding your options, you're not deciding. lol how can you say all the games you want in the world are on there? You and Mr Jobs must be soul mates. Watch movies on a 9" screen? You NEED an expensive converter to be able to use a USB device. Do you not need USB devices anymore? This is like me buying a hummer because there's one speed bump near my house. IMO, it could very well serve your purpose, but you've either deflated your wishlist of options or are the outlier. Also, there's nothing unique about your ipad, those are very common things to have on an iPad. I'm not too invested in this because honestly I see the positives of Apple products and the utility of an ipad, but I just get a bit irritated when someone misrepresents things. What it seemed you were saying in your post is: If your needs are like this, and your wallet is like this, get an iPad.
