pretty decent flick, i would say its better than fearless even though that movie got all the hype for recent martial art movies.

thats an affirmative. Yip man opened the first public martial arts school. back then, the secrets of martial arts was behind closed doors and handed down from generation to generation. bruce was actually 1/4 white which didnt help him out any when trying to learn kung fu.

if youve seen the movie about bruce lee's life (dragon)... when he goes back to HK, he goes and visits his master. that would be Yip Man.

Rumour said Bruce Lee was challenging his master Ip Man in that visit and there was a scrimmage between them. It resulted in a tense relationship between Bruce Lee and Ip's other disciples. Let's see how the sequel describes this part of the story. Ip's son is the counsellor of the movie series.

Interestingly, the general consensus is that Wing Chun was "invented" by a lady.

Im not sure of Yip Man's relationship w/ Bruce. they could have very well fought. Bruce wanted to teach Wing Tsun to westerners but Yip Man was probably against this idea. I have heard that Yip Man was pretty conservative.

the ledgend dictates that Wing Tsun was invented by a lady. The story goes that a woman monk from the shaolin temple left and settled on a mountain in southern china. There was a poor man who lived in a village near this mountain. The man had a daughter (Wing Tsun) who was constantly pestered by a rich villager bc he wanted to marry her. The rich villager tried to force Wing Tsun to marry him but she refused.

Out of pity, the woman monk taught Wing Tsun how to fight. Because Wing Tsun was a girl she didnt have brute strength so she relied on technique and speed. She defeated the rich villager in a fight and didnt have to marry him.

She ended up marrying some other villager and taught him what she had learned from the monk. This new style of fighting was named after the woman Wing Tsun and passed down from generation to generation. Along the way, new techniques were incorporated into the system like the 10 ft pole and the butterfly swords...

today there is beef among Yip Man's students. im not sure why this beef started but this is why there are different schools on Wing Tsun (Ving Sun, Ving Tsun, Wing Chun, Ving Chun, etc.)

ive been told that bruce never really finished his training under Yip Man. Bruce learned a lot but Yip Man didnt teach him everything (maybe bc he was 1/4 white). I guess thats why Bruce felt Wing Tsun was not "perfect" and started incorporating other styles into his own system (Jeet Kun Do).
