folks, have a question to ask...

I am interviewing for a job as a professor in a university in the south. I fly in at 5pm and the chairman will pick me up from the airport and take me out for dinner. What do I wear for such occasion? I am thinking to just wearing a nice sweater and casual pants since I will be on the plane for 6 hrs and I don't really want to wear a shirt and tie on the plane. What do people think ? sweater? shirt and not tie? or the full business attire ?

    Thanks.

It is always better to overdress than underdress for these types of things. You can always lose the tie and jacket if it is obvious that it is exceptable. You don't have to wear them on the plane either. Just put them in the overhead or ask the steward to hang the jacket up for you and put them on when you land.

Suit and tie. Better err on the side of caution.

My grandpa the haberdasher said " If you want to impress'em, out dress'em"

For dinner I would wear a sports coat and slacks. Maybe a tie as well but I don't think that a suit is necessary.

try something like black slacks.. nice blue button up shirt and a matching tie

or khaki slacks.. light blue button up shirt .. nice dark redish brown shoes and matching belt.. with a blue jacket.

I'd probably do a blazer w/ no tie for dinner and a suit for the interview...

For any interview, a nice navy or dark suit is perfect...

Suit and tie or sportcoat and tie. Definitely don't underdress, especially if you don't know the restaurant. It'll likely be nice.

wear a tux.....make sure the shirt has lots of ruffles and big lapels.

tails, tophat and a cane wouldn't hurt either.
