In the NBA recap of yesterday's game at Boston: "Yao did a great job," Van Gundy said. "I thought he passed the ball better. He was more active and assertive but also, particularly in the first half, we passed the ball much better. I think we passed the ball better as a team (and) Yao hit a couple of jump shots. He seems to play better when he is not locked into that low post all the time." Discuss... (Sorry, I couldn't help myself... )
Hmm..! Well our team is still developing..Yao balanced inside and perimeter game! He should start shooting 3's too..
Actually Yao seems pretty aggressive down low whenever he is not locked into that low post all the time. How ironic.
Yeah, but we really want him to become a big low post presence. It's ok for him to play away from the basket from time to time, but we are hoping he becomes more like Hakeem than Rik Smits.
I think its tough for alot of low post players these days.. I hope Yao can mix it up too.. high/low but not too much of one thing.. I dont want him banging in the post all game he will get exhausted but mix it up... J
This is great. I hope he starts running a lot more of those plays. Yao does MUCH better when he is moving towards the basket, or shooting jumpers, or passing the ball in the high post. I don't care if we need Yao to learn the low post better, I'm in favor of instant gratification! Yao can mix the low post plays in as he becomes stronger over the YEARS. There is no reason to force it on him all at once. I'm in favor of whatever gets us wins and a playoff spot RIGHT NOW. I remember when Yao went on his record setting streak last year. I can't really remember the exact details, but over the course of about 5 games he set a record for highest FG% ever. During that time he really was mixing up a lot of low/high stuff and also doing a lot of cleanup. After that spurt, Rudy started running more set low post plays for him and his percentage dropped. THANK YOU JVG!
Another thing we have to consider is resigning Yao. He needs to be happy, because we don't want him to sign with another team... only for his entire game to come together after 3 years of learning on the Rockets.
All I hope is that JVG has learned that Kelvin Cato is better coming off the bench as backup Center. The starting five plays and scores as a Team without Cato, just ask the Celtics Coach.
We have to take what happened yesterday with a grain of salt because the Celtics have Mark Blount and Chris Mihm manning the middle. If we played the Celts for 82 games, Yao will average 25-15. But I do think that Yao should mix in some outside jumpers so he doesn't get jammed and doubled all the time down in the low post.
