Knick PG Charlie Ward had 7+ points and 4.6 assists in just over 22 mpg. Could he give the versatility for whom most people here seem to looking. I don't know about his contract or what we would have to give up for him. Frankly, I don't even know if JVG likes him, but what do y'all think. Maybe, to go with Spree. They seem to like ex-rockets.
I like Charlie Ward in his first couple of years. He made some pretty amazing plays for them as a youngster during the playoffs that seem to remind me of what Sam Cassell did for us. But he just never seem to pan out. When the knicks were winning and going deep on the playoffs, there was a couple of interviews and such about him during the halftime of a couple of those games and he seem to be a the verge of breaking out and becoming a really good player. But he never seemed to make the jump neccessary and now that he doesn't even have potential anymore, I don't see why we should go after him.
Living in New York I get to see first hand how horrible Ward can be and how mediocre he is all other times.
no he is a much better player at gettiing the team involved but how will we get rid of moochie, we can't have francis mobley mooch and ward.
No to ward. As for Spree, he is a decent swing man, has shown he is the better than A. Houston, but he is also irresponsible and seems to have off the court problems. Not worth the headaches. We don't need another a$$hole on this team.
No official statistic is kept on charges taken, but Charlie Ward would undoubtedly be atop the league leaders if it were. Charlie Ward is willing to sacrifice his body and come out of nowhere to draw charges. Given his playoff experience the Rockets will be in better hands if they want to make it to the playoffs next year. His 5.6 million contract expires this year with only $2 milion salary protection. (BTW, the Knicks are still paying Larry Johnson $9.6 mil, Luc Longley $6.9 mil, Antonio McDyess $13.5 mil and Travis Knight 4.4 mil.) The only problem is that, instead of serving more assists, he devotes way too much time in serving the Lord.
plus, who would want spree and francis at the same team?! that would spell disaster. do you think spree will give the ball to yao? he;s even worse than mobley. he makes mobley look like j. kidd..
If we go after a guard of Ward's size, I would want it to be a PG that's good for 7+ assists/game. Ward doesn't fit that bill. Of course, it seems money is going to be an issue with this team and Ward is the quality of player that the Rockets tight budget will attract.
I think Ward has a 1 yr contract at 5 mil. Sure, I'd like that. They can have Mooch and filler. I'd love to do Cato and Mooch for Thomas and Ward, but even Scott Layden can see that's a problem. Hmm...Scott Layden. Check that. Run it up the flagpole.
Maybe Les would let bye-gones be bye-gones.. But seriously, even if we get JVG, I doubt we are going to try to make the Rockets like the Knicks. That would be nuts.
That is my feelings too. Regardless, I am not against trading with the Knicks. However, I don't feel we have anything on our roster that the Knicks want or that the Knicks feel would improve their team.
Only if he is going to play quarterback.....oh wait....this is a basketball bbs. No...I do not want Ward.
I've seen Ward enough to know that there is nothing to see here and that we should all move it along.
