Take her to see five contemporary dance companies performing Saturday night near Minute Maid Park. Plus chili cook-off, chair massage, etc. My brother and his wife (who run one of the companies) organized it. Here's the basic info from their flyer: On Saturday, April 5, from 8pm to 12am, five of Houston's best contemporary dance companies will be giving energetic, entertaining dance performances while, in the next room, we'll be serving up several different carnivore and vegetarian chili recipes, cornbread, chili fixin's, beverages, and dessert served from Art Cars. There's also a DJ dance room, FREE CHAIR MASSAGES, and some fantastic, "useful self-indulgences" silent auction items for you to bid on (massages, restaurant gift certificates, etc.). Featured performers: Fly Dance Company, Hope Stone Dance, Psophonia Dance Company, Suchu Dance, and Weave Dance Company. Your lovable host and emcee for the evening: Wayne Wilden. Plus celebrity chili tasters, an amazing raffle, and all around good company to share while you support a most worthy cause -- the new Barnevelder Movement/Arts Complex, an affordable downtown facility and performance venue for use by Houston's contemporary dance and performing arts groups. Barnevelder is here to serve these groups and the audiences/constituents that support them, as a place to hold classes, rehearsals, performances, and special events. Tickets and directions are available online at http://www.barnevelder.org or by calling 713.529.1819. Ticket prices are $35 single or $60 per couple, and all proceeds go to help defray recent and impending Barnevelder renovation costs. A MIGHTY GOOD CAUSE IF WE DO SAY SO OURSELVES! Hope to see you there, -- The hard-working staff and volunteers of Barnevelder Barnevelder Movement/Arts Complex 2201 Preston @ Hutchins tel. 713-529-1819 info@barnevelder.org www.barnevelder.org
That goes double for me. Those companies are all very good. Suchu is fantastic. Will: I just realized. Your last name's Saletan isn't it? You're Louis' brother? We went to high school together. Small freaking world. I didn't know he and Jennifer were married. Again, they're fantastic. They're my favorite art thing in town besides my own theater. I highly recommend this to everyone on this board. And also I'm more than a little drunk. It's okay. I'm taking cabs and also it's my birthday.
Sounds like a plan! Next Sat - on. Will bring daughter and dance partner. Happy b-day, Batman. Just got back from Texas Challenge. Really great dancing. Too bad its a completely insular subba-culture - other dance forms could pick up something in these Latin/Modern/Smooth/Rhythm/Theatre Arts pas de deux. Fantastic amatuer latin right here in Houston.
Happy Bday, Batman. Louis is my brother. That's funny that you went to HS together, I'll tell him. He and Jennifer got married a year and a half ago. Ashamed to say, both of you know more about theater and dance than I do. There's a reason why Louis went to HSPVA and I didn't. My idea of performing art is a Dreamshake.
That isn't PC it should be Meat Lovers. Us carnivores have feelings too and frankly mine are kinda hurt right now
I'm just kicking this up to the top one more time in case anybody's still looking for something to do Saturday night.
Hmm, Saturday night might end up being a huge scheduling blunder, sadly. It's the same night as the Men's Final Four, and UT(I'm sure a lot of fans in the Houston area) is in the late game(7:30 tip). Thus, unless the game will be on somewhere at this function, you may not get the desired number of people to show up until very late. Or you will just end up with a ton of people coming at 10-10:30 ish, but a lot of those people very well might be drunk by then. Good luck with this nonetheless, it's a worthwhile event, very cool if you ask me.
I have two tickets to the Cirque Soleil for tonight. Of course If my brother wants to go i'm going to give them to him. None of that BS this weekend!
Good Day Mates... That Cirque du Soleil show near the George R. Brown Convention Center is well worth it... That would probably impress your girlfriend more than this dance company in my humble opinion!
