I actually agree with a Fran Blinebury column http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/story.hts/sports/878032 There's actually some logic to be found in his usual drivel. I just love how Stern tries to make himself out as some visionary who is making "bold" moves to improve the game. "These rules will benefit the coaches, the players, and the fans." - Jack Ramsay. This pretty much shows where the opinions of the fans stand in all of this........ dead last. ------------------ [This message has been edited by tacoma park legend (edited April 14, 2001).]
This is to diversify the league with other races. Now you still have to be tall but not necessarily athletic to reap the benefits of the contracts being dished out. Oh, and you don't have to be an owner as well. ------------------
http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/story.hts/sports/bk/bkn/878085 LOL, read Francis' quote near the bottom. Gotta love it........ ------------------
Here's the quote TPL is referring to (hilarious stuff) : "I can't wait to get up to Vancouver," Francis said. "Hopefully I'll be able to shut that gym down with a stellar performance and victory. I think I was a pioneer to get them out of there. I hope the players are thankful, and I just want 1 or 2 percent of their contracts and I'll be (happy)." ------------------ Yugo grills, Yugo mills, Check out the oil my Yugo spills...
Guess who headed up the expansion committee that gave a team to Vancouver? The one and only Jerry Colangelo. We all know how the Grizz turned out, and you could argue that other circumstances led to the demise of their franchise, but in reality it was just a bad judgement call on the part of Colangelo. That franchise was doomed from the beginning. Oddly enough, this same genius is the mastermind behind the new rules. Go figure..... ------------------
I love how Colangelo put this vote to past so quickly while he had chance. He new the only chance in hell for him to get this off was to push it hard and fast while the coaches and players were completely pre-occupied. Do you guys realize who some of the people were who were selected to decide what was best for the coaches and players? Dyan Cannon and Theo Ratliff were just two members of this circus committee that were obvioulsy hand picked by Colangelo. Who knows who some of the rest were. Since when did Dyan Cannon and Theo Ratliff know whats best for coaches and players. Unbelievble! ------------------ [This message has been edited by ROCKETBOOSTER (edited April 14, 2001).]
In fairness to Ratliff, the reason he was a part of this committee was b/c he was injured. All of the other players were busy with the season. I think Alonzo Mourning was part of the group too before he came back.
I love Stevie, and I don't support the way Vancouver fans try to kill him whenever he goes up there, but I think it's unfair of him and cruel to diss Vancouver and Vancouver fans like that. He didn't want to play in Vancouver for whatever reasons, fine. But it was the Grizzlies organization that drafted him, not the city or the fans. The fans weren't to blame. And you can't blame them for being unhappy that their lottery pick blew them off. I can understand that Stevie's got some cognitive dissonance from justifying his reasons to ditch Vancouver, and it's not easy having thousands of people hating on you, but he should keep it in perspective. He wronged the Vancouver fans first. If you feel that he made it clear that he wouldn't play in Vancouver (and I agree that he was entitled to his reasons) and that the Grizzlies should have known better, fine. But that was management's fault, not the fans. I know I'm taking this comment way too seriously, but I guess I just wanted to speak up for the fans. I'm sorry they have such a loser organization with talented players who just lack something, and I hope everyone is better off in the long run with the events that are transpiring. ------------------
If you take what he said too seriously, then yes it would seem offensive, but I just think Steve has a twisted sense of humor when it comes to the Vancouver situation. Don't take it so seriously......... ------------------
Why support fans like that. ANy fan who intentionally throws something at someone ont he court, field, etc should not get an support or respect. I know Houston fans wouldnt care...i cant recall anything ever being thrown at Pippen, at we all hate Pippen as much as they hate Steve (at least I do). It is no suprise Francis has no nice things to say about them. ------------------ Haha.. you fool! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders. The most famous is: Never get involved in a land war in Asia. Only slightly less well know is this: Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line!
He needs a freakin' bodyguard! I mean, come on, why be nice!? ------------------ Chris Webber at the July 28, 2001 3:00 PM news conference when he announces where he will go: "It seemed tough, but with guidance from Steve Francis, I learned my true destiny. That destiny is to play for the Houston Rockets, to bring them back to championship glory. One big man is all they need, and I believe I can fill that void. Thanks to the loyal fans in Sacramento, but Houston, Texas is where I belong."
Excuse me for having a sense of humor. I understand you may find it insulting, but it's a joke and you shouldn't take it so seriously. ------------------
I thought it was funny, and I think Steve's tongue was planted firmly in cheek. As for Colangelo, I've never liked the guy. ------------------ "norm, would you like to buy an indian scalp ? This deal isn't gonna make or break me Norm, so don't jerk me around." Harry Carey "Norm, if I had a mohawk scalp, I wouldn't be sitting here talking to you."
They interviewed him during the Suns/Kings game, and he said the new rules would allow the players to "display their skills." Wake up Jerry. Many college players leave early because they can't display their full talent with a zone being played. See Vince Carter........ ------------------
