Found it interesting that probasketball.about.com NOW has Us drafting Diogu, not Simien. I havent really seen Ike play....can anyone inform me of his skills (offense, defense, rebounds)?

some of these draft sites are not taking into account each teams' needs, they are just ranking the players and slotting them into teams' draft order.

Well he is a PF, and thats what we need (at least thats what I think since we had BOWEN guarding Dirk the first couple of games in Round 1). An athletic PF is definitely needed....a taller swingman is too, but i's say a younger PF is more of a need.

Dude, the site is a joke.

They have Simien dropped all the way down to the Spurs. They have McCants to the Pistons. WTF?

I'd like to know what happened to Diogu on nbadraft.net

for the longest time he was projected as a mid-first rounder prior to the Rockets picking, and now he is out of the draft completely.

With his production, and probably being a top 2 or 3 Pac-10 player, I have a hard time believing he is not going to get drafted

I just looked at 3 different mock drafts....Joey Graham, Wayne Simien and Ike Diogu "assumed" to go to the Rockets at 24.

I know a mock draft is just someones opinion....needless to say, we are going to get some talent at #24!

he is listed in the 2006 mock

also for W mac - see my post above - they aren't matching players to teams, these sites are just ranking talent

It would be great to have Graham... or Diogu, or Simien, or Turiaf. We get any one of those four guys and I'm gonna by psyched. Haven't been this excited about a Rockets draft in years.

I totally agree with you. The Rockets will get some talent with the 24th pick. I wouldnt be surprised if they tried to pick up an early 2nd round pick either....or maybe thats just me and my wishful thinking.

I guess nobody's answered your question about Diogu's skill set because they haven't seen him play. I haven't either, but I'm doing some research on him, and here's what I've found... This year he put up 22.6 PPG, 9.8 RPG, 2.3 BPG while shooting 57.5% from the floor, 80% from the line, and 40% from three. The scouting reports I've read say he's extremely skilled offensively, but he's only 6'8(if that), and not a physical freak like Stoudemire or Marvin Williams. Good rebounder, good hands, good shooter, but hasn't really been tested by many big men, considering the PAC-10 is more of a guard-oriented league. Considered a very solid PF prospect, but not a superstar. I'm guessing in his prime he'll average between 16 and 20 PPG and between 7.5 and 10.5 RPG. At 24, after reading up on him and from what I'd already heard, I'd love to get him.

Ike Diogu is a player. He didn't get much pub in college because he played on an absolutely terrible ASU team. Dude has game, and was always mentioned by Duke Vitale as one of the top players in college. He's a natural scorer, which helps us since we need production from the 4 spot in the worst way.

He's probably better offensively than Simien, but Wayne got more pub at KU. But I'm with the poster who said he'd be happy with any of these guys. At this point I'm happy with anyone who isn't some Euro stiff.

Though PAC big men are not like you will find in lets say Big East, when it mattered Ike outplayed Channing Frye. Channing looked like a boy against him - an to even think that Channing was at least 2 inches taller than Ike. I will safely say that Channing cannot carry his "jock strap".

For a player every PAC 10 team gears their defense to stop his stats are even more impressive. If you watched one ASU game this past season you will understand - it is like Rockets without TMAC to a large extent.

His only bane is his height (about 6-7 though listed as 6-8) and I am confident that he will overcome that in the pro. I doubt if he will stay in this draft since he has one year of elligibility left but if he does stay I expect him to be picked up before the #24 pick.

    Plenty to love about Ike

I don't like what I've heard about this kid. He is a scorer, but I don't believe that we need one. I think we need someone who is a scrappy player. Someone who gets the extra baskets that we wouldn't get otherwise. A guy that can put up decent numbers with a garbage role.

Nice. If he were to average that then he certainly would be top 10.

i would rather have ike instead of simien just because he is a shot blocker too.

    douglasreedy1 :

16-20 and 7-10 in his prime may be a bit much, especially if we draft him.

if he averaged 22-10-2 in college playing 30+ minutes a game, then playing in the nba you would have to take off the rookie 30%. thats about 14-7-1.5. playing for our team, he would not get the ball that much on offense so its more like 7-7-1.5 in 30 minutes. off the bench i would settle for 4-4-1. those are dekes numbers. if we could have 2 dekes out there with james and barry that would be awsome.
