choose to have the ability to always hear people's thoughts, would you? The catch is once you choose to have this ability, you would not be able to turn it off for the rest of your life.

I've always pondered this question. As someone who's been doing the self-improvement deal for a while, particularly with dating, I've sometimes wanted this. Royals makes a good point, if it was non-stop then no. Yet, even if it wasn't non-stop you'd definitely be tempted to abuse it way too much as would I.

I don't see how that power wouldn't be ripe for abuse.

If I could control who's mind I listened in on I would definitely want it and I would definitely abuse it.

    I'd transcend.

You mean, like Sookie Stackhouse (True Blood / Southern Vampire series)? If I could learn to control it like she does with her close friends/family, then yes.

    I would never want that.

The closest I'll ever come to reading what people might be thinking is by getting to know them and looking out for signs such as tone of voice, facial expressions, and body language. Other than that I want no such ability. I'm not even interested in knowing what people I don't know are thinking.

Most definitely. If someone is thinking about shooting up the place I am at,I know to get the hell out of there.

Hell yeah, I could make a fortune playing in the World Series of Poker, or Who Wants to be a Millionaire, or pretty much anything.

(Slight tangent: I would not want perfect memory super powers.)

Hell no! When I came to the understanding of "what others think of me is none of my business", I stopped worrying about others thoughts and perceptions of me. Life became a whole lot easier after that realization.

Who cares what they think of you though? I wouldn't want the power for that. I'd use it to manipulate my way into global ruler. And to cheat at poker.

I would say no way. When I said you can't turn it off it would be like hearing people talk all over the place. A constant stream of information. That being said, eventually I think you would be found out and ostracized. Who the hell would want to be with someone that could do this?

I think you would live a very sad and lonely life, not to mention that it would probably damage your view of people when you realize how *****ed up everyone's thoughts are.

I'd sit in a wheelchair and start a school for mutant students.

    No way.

    I'll just go insane.

Plus, it's fun to analyze body languages and etc. :) Why take out the fun of that?

I'd like to correct my previous statement, as I am in the prosperous Behavior Science field, I already know what others are thinking just by observing them
