    So, let's play a little. I am bored and need entertainment.

    Let's pretend China is crazy (since we always personify countries) and that the Rockets do have to send a player to the Sharks in exchange for drafting Yao.

    Some have suggested Cato because he sucks. Sorry, that is the wrong answer. Cato does not suck, he is merely serviceable. He could play on any team in the NBA - no motivation there.

    Collier is big. Big guys can always find work in the NBA.

    SO that leads me to the perfect candidate in Danforth.

    Basketball reasons why Dan Langhi should go to China:

    1. He sucks in the NBA
    2. He did not suck in college
    3. In order to "not suck" Dan needs to be surrounded by players with lesser (not even equal) talent. Langhi's game can only flourish if he dominates the ball
    4. Dan could not dominate the ball for any other team in the NBA
    5. The exchange would have to work where the Rockets re-sign Langhi, then "trade" him to Shanghai. Langhi, therefore, would make more money than if he played in a US minor league or in Europe (and he would be payed by an American team - not Chinese so would not have to give up his salary to the Gov).
    6. He would actually play and probably avergare more than 10ppg in the CBA - something that will never happen in the NBA.

    Non-Basketball reasons for Dan to go to China

    1. He is tall
    2. His height advantage in daily life will give him a big confidence boost that will transfer to the basketball court
    3. He is a dork and is awkward and needs a social life
    4. Being a "tall outsider" will create a mystique that will go over with the ladies in China or....
    5. When he comes back to the States in the offseason, he can use his newfound "skills" to pick up the American ladies (lines like "Whoa, I know kung-fu" will go over really well)
    6. More popularity would be gained for him through the "human interest" angle because he would be a pioneer - going where no whitey has gone before - instant media makeover. Endorsements, fan mail, tv and print stories and interviews. All of these would never happen if he stays in the US.

    Don't you think Langhi needs this help? Let's band together to help send Langhi to China.

    For the good of the Rockets. For the good of him. For the good of China. For the good of the US (insert patriotic song here). But mostly for the good of the children.

    He also went to a decent school, so maybe he'd be better at picking up the culture and language. It all makes sense to me, assuming we can do away with all those pesky rules and laws and stuff.

    This is muddled thinking.

    A current NBA player belongs to the players union and has his contract with the league office (with his team guaranteeing the $$$). The players union and the league office have a Collective Bargaining Agreement, which almost certainly guarantees that a player can not be traded to a non NBA team which does not recognize the CBA.

    What the Rockets can do is give the Sharks $$$ which would attract near NBA quality players.

    I believe Langhi is already married with a child.

    Ahhh, I see your point. If we ship Langhi to China, and he hits it off better with the ladies there and gets married and becomes a Chinese citizen, then he'll only be allowed to have one child. That's probably a good thing.

    This is genius thinking.

    We all know you can't trade a player to China, so I say we divorce the "Ming To Houston" issue with the "Langhi To China" issue and focus on the bigger goal: Langhi needs to go to China, plain and simple. I don't care if the Rockets trade the #1 pick for Amare Stoudamire and a still-sealed copy of "Alyssa Milano's Teen Steam" video-- Langhi needs to go to China no matter what.

    Look, I know a thing or two about projects like this, and it could work. We need some posterboard, some markers, a fax machine, an accordion, a travel agent and about fifteen people to gather on one afternoon. Anyone else up for it? Someone get me www.langhitochina.com and I'll set it up. Rimbaud, your brilliant treatise will be the entire written content of the site.

    People on this site never cease to let me down. Most of you people know nothing about basketball negotiations - with talk of contracts, unions, and wives.

    CBFC is the only person with clear thinking and informed vision.

    heyp,

    Close, but I was thinking more about saving American children - I care nothing for any of those "others."

    ah-so,

    If Ming is held hostage from the Rockets then our children have no hope, because the terrorists have won. But you are saying that we should ignore such things that we cannot control. Instead, we use Langhi as a peace biscuit with a goodwill first strike for the good of Langhi, China, and our children to insure that the American Basketball way has won by purging it of Langhi...and with a sum gain over the terrorists keeping Ming.

    The only problem I see is what happens if Langhi uses his dancing gecko defense on the ladies. This could cause a bad, international episode.

    here's the side-angle view of the Langhi frilly, dancing lizard defense. This actually might help him with the babes.

    Why is this thread still up? I thought Langhi was a free agent and that the Rockets havn't even thought about talking to him about coming back.

    You are too young to understand. Stop trying to crush my dream. Besides, I clearly said we would re-sign Langhi, then send him to China. It is 100% sure-fire.

    Langhi is married with a daughter already, so the marriage deal is out, but I am sure he could dominate in that league, at least he would be a starter there.

    How about this trade. Real GM said it works cap-wise

    China gets:
    Dan Langhi
    Drew obligation
    Compaq Center security staff
    Some nice romaine lettuce

    New York gets:
    Matt Maloney
    Jason Collier

    Houston gets:
    To haul some broken bottles from Madison Square Garden parking lot
    -----------------------
    TRADE ACCEPTED

    Then we'd look like

    5: Ming/Broken Glass/Cato
    4: EG/ MoT/ Tmo
    3: KT/Rice/Torres
    2: Mobley/Francis
    1: Francis/Francis/Broken Glass/Norris

    I'd say we come out pretty well. I think its a win-win.

    ...except we might resign Langhi:( :D

    Look, we can do away with all this conjecture by just sending Thomas Hamilton over there with enough money for 25 daily pounds of Moo-Shu pork. He'll be the Shaq of the CBA.

    this thread title gave me the following idea:

    if (China) {
    lanky();
    houstonDaresToBeGreat();
    }
    else if (Odom && draftPick8, draftPick12) {
    possiblePlayoffContention();
    }
    else if (Curry && draftPick2) {
    if ((Curry==successfulCenter) {
    greatTrade();
    }
    }
    else if (Jamison && draftPick3) {
    Tweener(Jamison);
    TwoSmallForwards(Jamison, draftPick3=(Dunleavy || Butler));
    }
