All of a sudden my home page (IE) keeps wanting to be "about:blank". I'll change it, but then it just changes back. Also, I'll click on some links sometimes, and instead of the page I want coming up, "about:blank" comes up. I did a google search, and apparently this is a common thing- however there were so many links about it, that I don't know where to start to get rid of it. Anyone know the easiest way? Thanks in advance.
Try this: http://www.softwarepatch.com/tips/about-blank-adware.html Sounds like it's that CWS crap again. Man that stuff was pissing me off so much before. But since I've switched over to firefox and started using zone alarm, I haven't had any problems.
I'd say the easiest way to fix that problem is to use the IE start page lock in the advanced features of Spybot 1.3. 1. Start Spybot 1.3, and check the "Mode" menu to make sure you're in advanced mode. 2. Select "Tools" in the left frame. 3. Select "IE Tweaks." 4. After making sure your startpage is set correctly, hit that middle checkbox that says "Lock IE start page..." You also may want to check your hosts files for bad entries... that's often the problem when it comes to f'd up IEs. 1. Go into your "Start" menu and hit "Search." 2. Select "All files and folders." 3. In the "All or part of the file name" field, type "hosts" and click "Search." 4. Open every file it finds in notepad, and delete ALL lines which are NOT one of these two things: a. Any line beginning with the "#" symbol b. 127.0.0.1 localhost 5. Once you're finished with that, click the checkbox in Spybot 1.3 which was right above the aforementioned "Lock IE start page." Hope that helps...
Have decided to add CWShredder to the sig. But it's easy to avoid all these problems alltogether . . .
TheFreak - When I had this same problem 6 months ago I used the CWShredder and it worked. Then I immediately switched to Firefox. All good since then. I'd suggest you do the same.
Google Toolbar SpellBound, the Firefox spell checker Allegedly Spellbound isn't as good as iespell yet, but I'm sure it's getting there. Also, I don't know if it works on 1.0, but I suspect that if it doesn't now, around Nov. 9th, a version will.
