Well, I check my bank account (Regions Bank) every night and every morning. This morning I discovered numerous charges had happened over the night which has caused me to go $250 into the red in my account. I contacted the bank and immediately reported my card lost/stolen. I also received an email about 4 this morning stating that there was some suspicious activity going on with my card. I called the number in that email and they told me that since the charges are pending and have not hard posted (cleared) there is nothing I can do besides closing my card. They said once the charges have cleared, I need to come into a local branch and fill out a fraud claim and the results of that will take 10-14 days to resolve. The charges all took place at Chevrons, Walmarts, and Gene's Package Store and all were for $40 or more. I'm not able to see any detailed information on the charges since they have not cleared. Tried googling Gene's Package store and the closest thing I found was something in or around the Dallas area. I have credit monitoring setup, not that it is going monitor my bank account, but it will come in handy if my identity was stolen in other ways and I'll be alerted. I have checked my other credit card/bank accounts to see if they were affected and none of them have been. I think I am good with all of those.....for now. I know that bank/debit card fraud is a lot more complex than credit card fraud. I have heard it is a lot more difficult to get funds back from these than credit cards. Has anybody else been through something similar? If so, what was the process you went through to get this corrected?
Depends on the bank. I once had fraudulent iTunes charges (yes, before i converted to droiiiid) , and Chase didn't want to help me at all. I contacted Apple and I got my money back from them. I didn't expect that at all. Good luck sir
Everytime I have had my ID stolen (3 times now) my credit card company and bank were extremely helpful.
Sorry to hear, Lil Pun. On a related note, someone stole my identity on Clutchfans. But only sometimes. All annoying, insulting and stupid posts were made by the identity thief. All others (all three of them) are actually mine.
was your card actually lost/stolen? it's not really ID theft if they are just using a stolen card. i know that probably doesn't make you feel any better but it's better than actually having your ID stolen.
Yeah I had fraudulent charges made to my CC while I still had it. One was to Time Warner cable for $300 plus, in California! Another one was an Airtran charge for $400 plus, in the state of Utah. smh
Yeah same here happened to me numerous occasion... I had to get the identity theft program which is like 12.99 monthly from BankOfAmerica...
Happened to me once. Checked my account one morning and found 10 $100 charges to a gambling site. Called Wells Fargo and found the gambling site's contact info. Both helped me get my money back within a couple of days.
This is why I always change my card number and close any old accounts open debit cards every 3 months.
Just curious if you went to any ATMs that you usually don't go to; skimmers every where it seems. I try to go to an ATM I know if I need cash or I go straight to to the motor bank to withdraw cash. I use Credit everywhere else since it's easier to get that money back (and rewards)
LongTimeFan did this to be on the board. He needs to change his nic soon. I called the bank and they were all "WTF are you even talking about dude?" Worthless credit union!
That's the thing, I rarely carry cash on me and never visit an ATM. I always go to a store and just get cash back while making a purchase for something that is needed.
I never found out for sure. But I'm 90% sure it was the Chinese food delivery driver. It happened the night after we ordered and i remember him asking for an imprint of my card. I don't do that anymore...
