So! I NEED a puppy for my daughter. We want a dog that doesn't get very big and that has short hair. Where's the best place to look? I already know the SPCA is not going to have any small dogs. Greensheet? Craigslist? How can I find a healthy puppy, I don't want to get one and my daughter get attached to it and then it dies of parvo or something. Help me!!!
i went to this wal-mart by 45 north. scary wal-mart i must add. but towards the back, they were people setting up tables with things like puppies for sale, shoes, jeans, and tamales for sale. so check out that place. and greensheet.
a parvo shot is less than 4 dollars at Tractor Supply Co. the shot is actually a vaccination for 5-6 viruses. (give or take a few, it's been a few years.) forget a dog. get your kid a goldfish. you'll thank me.
YOu can try local newspaper Ads or google online and see if anyone within your city or region are giving away free or cheap puppies. Or else you need to monitor the Humane Society and be on the lookout if they receive any puppies because they'll be gone fast. But I'm pretty sure the Human Society usually have connection with Petshops and transferred them there and selling them for an outrageous price.

Whatever you do...Don't get a Jack Russell Terrier... (p.s., you were right manny,...you were right.)
My friend volunteers at the SPCA and she was telling me they have all sorts of dogs large and small. Also, CAPS, the Humane Society and other adoption organizations are great. You might consider finding a couple of the breed rescue organizations for smaller dogs and contacting them. They often have sweet rescue animals that need homes.
Jack Russell Terriers' are what you're looking for. Great dogs for kids, smart as a whip, just great little dogs We found our Jack through Craig's list. Just look for individuals that have the breed you want and breed them privately. You don't want a puppy mill or a pet shop. Make sure you get a registered bloodline and you'll be fine. One problem with finding a bloodline that's registered though is that that the AKC does not recognize the English Jack, just the Parson's (American) Russell. Our's is an English (shorter legs than the Parson), but has an English registered bloodline. We love our Dexter Dog!!
Get a rescued dog... Here is a link to a bunch of houston area rescues if you are from this area. http://people.consolidated.net/window/pure.htm#a If anyone is interested in Labradors I got my dog from this rescue http://www.txlabrescue.org/
LOL! Whatever you do, when you get a dog, have a backup plan as to how you're going to get rid of it just in case because I've come across a ton of people that, once that "cute puppy effect" wears off, want a refund.
